Super Cool- The exoskeleton

Powered exoskeleton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A powered exoskeleton is a powered mobile machine consisting primarily of a skeleton-like framework worn by a person, and a power supply which supplies at least part of the activation-energy for limb movement.

Powered exoskeletons are designed to assist and protect the wearer. They may be designed for example to assist and protect soldiers and construction workers, or to aid the survival of people in other dangerous environments. A wide medical market exists in the future for providing mobility assistance for aged and infirm people.

Working examples have been constructed but are not currently widely deployed. Various problems remain to be solved, including suitable power-supply.

That looks pretty futuristic, and Im sure with the added amour it will lower the death toll of soldiers in war. I wonder how fast someone can move with all the equipment on though.... Robocop wasn't a speedy guy LOL

Take over the world of course. I'd probably start by conquering a few smaller Asian countries, then have them make millions more suits for my ever-growing army of minions.

Although I'd have some fun before doing that - for example, running up beside cars doing 10 kph and throwing them into the ditch.

or walk onto the highway and stop 18 wheelers dead in their tracks, or maybe stand under a boeing 747 and right before it touches down, keep it from landing, spin it around, and give everyone on board motion sickness.

But Metroid? She's a freaking bouncing ball FFS

Or she's a really good contortionist

Posted by smuncky on Nov-27-2007 02:04:

i like it old school

Posted by DigiNut on Nov-27-2007 02:04:

That's really a more artistic rendition of the suit (and I'm not even going to comment on the one Jenny posted).

The original design was intentionally androgynous:

Haha...the suit is worn by that character, Samus, in the game Metroid.

On serious thought, I'm interested to see where this power armour concept goes.

Right now, Light Infantryman (aka guys who do not ride in APCs) have to carry all their gear on their backs if doing missions over pretty impassable terrains where trucks can't get to you, such as mountains.
Add your rucksack, ammo, food, water, entrenching tools, body armour, tactical vest, helmet, weapon, plus misc gears and depending what your job is, and it all adds up, possibly more than 100 pounds. (and it sucks)

So anything to take weight off your legs and back is good.
