a)find cheesy vocals about rainbows and going far away and missing someone...

b)add a simple loop....... continue loop for 5 minutes.

c)after five minutes drop the loop and add some piano..

d) profit!

Learn your production environment. (Software, Hardware, Synths and plugins)

Best way to do this, if you are using "software" is to import an existing midi into your environment.

This should help you in understanding the different parts of an existing track that you are already familiar with

Next try to create a bass line a synth lead or a drum track. Just remember learn one at a time a common mistake is when you try to write a hit the first time you sit in front of a synth or your computer.

Once you have created a "part" try to use different instruments on the play back

Now you are ready to change wave patterns and effects this should give you a start in manipulating the sound

Remember you will never be great at all aspects of music production

For example you may find yourself asking people for tips on bass lines or vocals and in my case mastering

Here is a great link to get started

D.Ramirez working on a track.

this might be of some help, its not sitting down with someone and actually seeing first hand or hands on but still worth a look, has a good example of sidechain compression which is used a lot these days in House and Trance.

So what would the formula be for producing house music.

- find a boring monotone base beat

- add a cow bell here and there

- add some vocals

- grab a pillow to fall asleep

- no proft

Ahh the beauty of subtle repetition. It's definitely not for those looking for instant gratification...

Hey to each their own. I just hate when people say thing such as that as all trance is not all cheezy.

Jose Gonzles Crosses (Tiesto Re Rub) for example is something that is top notch and falls nothing in to a category listed above.

Yeah but I like Jorri Hulkonnen's mix alot more.

Not all trance is cheesy, but alot of what is popular is to me. I dont mind cheese now and then, no denying garnier played a bunch of diva vocals, but sometimes those superficial lyrics just get unbearable. And this is coming from someone who likes a lot of Oceanlab tracks (mostly the older ones). And I did fucking rave hard to No One On Earth everytime I would hear it out. I've just moved on...

this is misguided or ignorant.

the only part that is right is the no profit, but if you make a few hits and take the DJ route like so many producers do these days with the advent of Ableton and CDJ's, there is some money there, but EDM production shouldnt be approached with the idea of "profit". If your having fun making house music, its rewarding, profit is a nice bonus. In other words keep your day job, make music for fun, if profit comes along roll around in it while you can.

no forumla needed, just do it your own way and make it sound good and possibly dj friendly if you want anyone to play it.
