is it neotrance?

kai tracid's recent comeback releases sound like what some people call "neo trance", ie dark and somewhat minimal(not uber minimal like some other examples i've heard, ie microtrance).hoverver, wiki calls stuff like kyau and albert neotrance, which are completely different sounding.

It's true because it's on wiki.

NEO TRANCE
SHIT

BTW that second sample is Kai's new tune

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Nov-28-2007 20:21:

Is that the latest buzzword to use then?

Posted by sljiva on Nov-28-2007 20:23:

Shit? No, it's been around for years...

Oh?

Oh...

I see what you did there.

Posted by sljiva on Nov-28-2007 20:31:

Seriously now, it probably is, since this is like the 15th thread in which you ask the same question. Just let it go man. Buzzwords won't disappear just because you don't like them

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Nov-28-2007 20:34:

Uhm... okay...

That really does sound like shit.

NEO TRANCE

Neo trance is nothing more than a revival of the old classic/proper trance sound for the modern age. That's why it's pointless to use the neo- when you can simply call it.....trance. Your sample is a good example of trance music.

The topic was discussed here:

Well, then it's also pointless to use the term trance when you can simply call it electronic music. And that can be pointless too, so we could just use the term music.

Neo trance term serves its purpose, and I don't understand all that resistance against it

IMO microhouse/microtrance(extremely minimal with lot's of IDM style clicks and crunches) is different from neo/revival trance. what a misnomer with people calling microhouse neo-trance.

In electronic music, when we use the prefix "micro", it is usually to refer to the actual lenght of samples used.

For example, in microhouse (which has then pretty much merged with minimal techno), samples of sound are very concise and short, and often used in place of actual instrumentation, to replace, for example, kicks, snares, hats, whatever.

a good example of that would be the Akufen album "My way"

Aye, threads have been made on this topic. Including one by me ^____^

Several recent tracks like Airbase - Rest in Peace, although often having modern "electro" beats, have old-skool sounding synth instruments, ie pre-supersaw. This is what Kyau and Albert(which Wiki calls neo trance) sound like. Melodic neotrance? Neo-melodic trance? Again not to be confused with "microtrance". Another "nu skool (melodic) trance" example is Art of Trance - Persia(2006).
Kai Tracid and Hardfloor's comeback productions = Neo acid trance?(again not microtrance)
Artists like Steve Bug have been producing microhouse/microtrance for several years, so it sure ain't neo.

that kai tracid track isn't as awful as i thought it would be. it's a good concept, i just don't know if it was executed that way. whatever, at least it's not mcprog.

i personally thought this "neotrance" was more along the lines of like... oxia - domino, daniela stickroth - chest in the attic, santos - somatique, etc... or am i wrong and is that just like "melodic minimal"?

forgive my ignorance. i listen to florida breaks.
