M.I.K.E

why on Earth to people think this guy is good? Ive yet to hear a decent production from him, and every single remix of his Ive heard has sucked. His tracks just sound like noise.

Push and Plastic Boy are good, but it seems to me he just uses this alias when he wants to release some crap tunes, probably so it doesnt damage the reputation of his other aliases.

how does that make sense?

imo mike production are more advanced, harder to enjoy than is other alias.

Posted by SMC on Nov-30-2007 19:55:

Let me guess, you've just heard very recent M.I.K.E. productions?

Posted by the_gamemaster on Nov-30-2007 19:55:

I mean why do people think M.I.K.E (as an entity) is good, not the actual person. I dont deny his talent, i just think this particular alias of his is completely pointless

Maybe, so his earlier tracks are better? I'd say I havent really heard anything after intruder with AVB (which sucked by the way). I might have heard earlier stuff, but I can't remember right now.

Have you tried these:
Salvation
Sunrise at Palamos / Someone Somewhere (less known b-side but still kickin)
Voices from the Inside (M.I.K.E.'s Progressiva Remix)
Massive Motion
For Always in My Heart
Albert Vorne - A Leaden Way (M.I.K.E. Remix)
his track under The Blackmaster alias - "Solid Tube" is also highly recommended.

Hope this will change your opinion about him.

Posted by the_gamemaster on Nov-30-2007 20:03:

Ive heard a few of those, Ill give the rest a listen and see if they change my mind.

If you're more into something melodic, maybe "Pound" which was also made together with AvB will match your taste better. I personally quite like it.

Some random favorites of mine:

Kobbe & Austin Leeds - Daze (M.I.K.E. Remix)
Ofra Haza - Love Song (M.I.K.E. vs Zigi Remix)
Solarium - Venice Under Water (M.I.K.E. Remix)
M.I.K.E. - Sunrise At Palamos (classic)
M.I.K.E. vs J00F - Icecream
M.I.K.E. vs J00F - Dame Blanche
(M.I.K.E. presents) Absolute - New Horizon (there are many M.I.K.E. presents random new alias, but New Horizon sounds very much like M.I.K.E.)

Also i thought "The Perfect Blend" was quite good. His new album and recent productions are awful however.

Why don't you like Intruder? It's like the sickest tune. I always listen to it thinking about M.I.K.E. kicking Armin's ass in the studio. The guy is huge.

Posted by adam_rodriguez on Nov-30-2007 20:15:

Yeah 'Pound' was better...take a listen to 'Sunrise at Palamos' if that doesnt change your mind then nowt will - one of the best progressive trance tracks ever imo.

I havnt got a bad word to say about the guy really, hes a legend, together with Laurent Verrronez.

Posted by the_gamemaster on Nov-30-2007 21:19:

Just listened to a couple of those tracks you mentioned on beatport and I was reasonably impressed, they were a lot better than some other stuff I've heard from him. I take back what I said earlier, although his music is certainly an acquired taste.

Posted by isoterra on Nov-30-2007 22:39:

intruder was fucking insane, sounded totally different to.. well... anything. i've yet to hear anything from the armin camp since then with a fraction of the balls that track had

and yes, MIKE has come out with plenty of shit tracks in the past but i totally respect him as a producer. he's always been a leader rather than a follower and is never too scared to try & tackle new ground (even if it means having a different guise for each of the 239847234 new styles he comes up with)

Posted by HaeD on Nov-30-2007 22:45:

Am i the only one liking is recent tune? I love Nu sentation.

Posted by noikeee on Dec-01-2007 00:03:

MIKE - Elements of Life : win. Well, at least I used to like it, I haven't heard it in so long that I don't remember exactly how it sounds like.

Another track that I know that has a similar mood, and rocks, is Virtua Trancer - Sex After Dinner. The deeper-trance side of MIKE used to be really good.

Posted by AustralianGQ on Dec-01-2007 01:10:

personally i like all of M.I.K.E. productions

Posted by junkproject on Dec-01-2007 01:49:

His good because he stop playing trance! lmao, his new sound is great.

i see you are about as educated on good music as a dead squirrel

Posted by AY STAR on Dec-01-2007 02:11:

to say all of mike's singles suck
is like saying the sun does not rise in the east and set in the west
its just not true
besides his most popular push & plastic boy aliases he has the alias absolute and has a album comming out under that very soon so keep ur eyes out for that
he puts alot of emotion into those tracks imo its my fav
but as for his "m.i.k.e" alias to me thats also good
sure his older ones like
sunrise at palamos,massive motion,albert vourne- a leaded way (m.i.k.e remix),intruder etc etc
are all great tracks mike deff has his own style
to me his tracks may not be the fastest bpm or have other typical trance stuff
mike uses alot of different sounds and just keeps building and building with his songs till it takes you on a journey
as for his last album a perfect blend to me that was one of his best works and one of the best albums in 06
almost every track on that cd would work in a club
and voices from the inside wow with that track mike out did himself
as for his new cd, iam a huge mike fan but to me its just not as good as his last cd
this cd to me is more like experimental and hes tryin to show he can make more then just club bangers
i only like a better world, cosmo club and hide
to me hide is one of his best tracks tho besides that base and kick they do not go with the rest of the synths and melodys in that track
if he did a push or plastic boy or even a mike remake to that song to make it more club friendly
it would be amazing
for true mike fans we know his work is not his best at this point in his life but do we give up hope on him? hell no cause we all know one day hes just gonna make some shit that when you first hear it are gonna be like

First of all why would you bash an artist when you havent heard much of his stuff at all. M.I.K.E. has produced atleast 200 tracks easy, maybe more. He's considered one of the best edm artists ever, a legend. Yes, his music is 'acquired' taste...its good taste. Please don't commit blasphemy like this again dude.

Posted by DJLafleur on Dec-01-2007 04:25:

M.I.K.E. is one hell of dj/producer!! I cant see how anyone hates him. He's realesed two great albums within the last year or so(Perfect Blend/Moving on in life)

Some good tracks by M.I.K.E.

A better life(Ft Andrew Bennet)
Intruder/Pound(ft the amazing AVB)
Voices from the inside(Progressiva Mix)
Swoon(Ft Lux Libson)
Totally Fascinated
For always in my heart
Massive Motion
Turn Off the lights

Easily one of my favorite Progressive Trance producers

Posted by Igaryok on Dec-01-2007 04:44:

I disagree with OP, I think a lot of his tracks are brilliant.

M.I.K.E. is kind of like Oliver Lieb for me, even though I don't like all of his productions I still have massive amounts of respect for him.

Posted by FCB_Fanatic on Dec-01-2007 11:48:

You can find some awesome releases under his M.I.K.E. alias, but you'll especially have to search for his older releases (with "Sunrise at Palamos" as one of my favourites ). Personally I also liked his "Perfect Blend" album, but after that he went downhill with the M.I.K.E. alias. I really don't like his new album, it has too much electro influences. It's a road Mike went into a while back, also with his sets. He really believes in this sound, but it's not really my taste.

If you're looking for trance than you'll have to look more for his other aliases (e.g. Push, Absolute, Active Sight). He's still producing trance under those.

Posted by SPANIARD on Dec-01-2007 14:26:

I'm not digging his new 'electro' trance stuff now but his past work is the main reason I'm into EDM like I am now. Moon Project, Solar Factor, Plastic Boy, Absolute, Active Sight plus the many other things he's done... his sound is just something else.

I am a big fan of M.I.K.E. the guise doesn't really matter, he has some which i find better than others, but he has so many tracks that i enjoy.

In terms of his M.I.K.E. moniker, i think his best track is Someone somewhere, although Intruder, Totally Fascinated, Sunrise at Palamos and the Ofra haza remix come close, he has quite a range of sounds with this moniker to be fair.

Also he is to release more stuff under PUSH supposedly - which can only be good!

Heard someone mention: Virtua Trancer - Sex after Dinner - A very good track this one, really like that sound.

Does he still produce or going to produce in his Active Sight guise?
