to quote aphex twin... too many sheep not enough shepherds

is it just me or is any kinda shit beening sign up to labels nowadays..... i mean this beatport beatdigital to name a couple i think have ruined the industry..... i mean the industry is swamped with low rate producers that couldnt play a e flat minor scale.... all harmony and real melody has gone out of music

interested in people views on this....

the industry needs a BT...or oakey kinda dude to raise the bar again....and when i say oakey i mean....the way he took a new style to the forefront not his tune making skills expect stuff he did under virus....that was good

i'd be willing to bet oakey doesn't know the e flat minor scale.

Its always been this way. I used to get into arguments all the time with some of my DJ friends that played things like tech-house, breaks, etc. They always used to think that Trance and Progressive sucked and couldn't understand why I played it.

Some people just aren't into the melodic stuff and prefer real floor-banger type stuff.

I think the fact that this is the "Tranceaddict" forum means that more people on here are going to be into the melodic type stuff and you won't find a whole lot of people championing anything else.

+1 on that! I'd also bet that BT knows every e flat mode, scale variation, etc. that ever existied! hehe. The guy is f'ing unbelievably talented.

I don't give a shit what chords BT knows, he still makes extremely boring CHEEZE music. Also he's a gay.

Don't blame beatport, blame all these small indie lables for having poor quality control. I know several DJs, and they say it's very time consuming to sample all the new tracks on beatport and find the good stuff. Welcome to the digital age, where it costs virtually nothing to put music on the virtual store shelves.

So know which labels to trust.

"too many sheep not enough shepherds"

that's easier said than done. much, much, easier said than done.

I've experimented with esoteric sounds and different scales, crazy automation, maybe add influences from other cultures, but in the end it sounds corny or incoherent.

You have to be truly a genius like aphex twin to be unique.

Also, while electronic music is young in terms of a genre itself, it's not THAT young and has been around for ahwhile now, so every experiment has been done. I don't think there is anything new to explore, or if there is anything new to explore, it won't be much.

I don't know about you. But the fact that i know that Aphex made Windowlicker, makes him with Junkie XL and Quiver one of the best producers skill wise on my list.

Have you ever heard the song?

So his words are quite valid and i agree ot be honnest.

Posted by maximlee on Dec-02-2007 22:58:

sweet as

thansk for feedback cool....... i think real genius is taking music back to its roots..... to the core elements drums and string intruments... there is a new sound coming if you look at the time line

88-89 oldskool

98-99 trance

08-09 well i havent thought what im going to call my style yet any suggestions....lol

Sounds like the problem isn't lack of shepherds but lack of something else:

To quote a wise ninja: "If you kill all the wolves, you're gonna have a crapload of bunnies..."

I'd rethink some things first though man. You could say that certain cultures never thought their way of life would ever change to something new. its something thats very human...that we're living in the best possible or last possible situation just by naturally eliminating the other (worse) situations through time. its easy to think, 'how could there be anything else?'. but this has been proven wrong for years. boundary changing innovations haven't come easy and they're rarely anticipated and commonplace.

LOL! I could name a few, but in doing that, I would be saying that they release crap. Some labels will take just about anything. Maybe there should be a sticky here with a big list of labels.
