Unhappy My poor car :(

Hey guys,

Never really posted in this section but I thought I might as well vent was has been a full-on 24 hours for me and the description of the forum says talk about whats on your mind so this is my two cents about my first full on car crash I had last night (pics below too).

Yesterday arvo a mate calls me up and asks if I want to go see a movie with him and some others, I agree and head on over to his place. As I'm driving it starts to rain and I'm going 60 km/hr up a road (I don't know what that is in miles sorry).. anyway I'm going over a hill doing the speed limit when all of a sudden I see a white V8 SS commodore (for the aussies who know what they are) on my side of the road drifting. I think what the hell do I do, I slam on the breaks but by the time I did that, the car was right infront of me.

I knew I couldn't avoid the crash so I hold on like shit and embrace a fucking hard hit, I pretty much hit his car head on at 60 km/hr (cops later determined he was doing 80 k's an hour) when the speed limit was 60. I smash into the front/side of his car at a decent speed, my airbag deploys from the first hit.. my car spins and the car that was travelling behind me slams on it's breaks and smashes into my drivers door (the airbag had already done its job so only my seatbelt was helping me here)...so the 2nd hit was pretty nasty too, spun my car around some more.

I'm pumping the breaks and my car just isn't stopping, I pull up the handbreak and I just feel my car sliding as I can hardly see and my bonnet is all smashed up and my car flies off the road and just misses a tree, and you can see by how close in the images. Amazingly, I was able to undo my seatbelt and crawl over to the passenger side and get out. Cops, firebrigade and ambulances are there within minutes. I was the only one who got taken to hospital with a fractured rib, which cains but time will heal and painkillers are helping. I'm just glad I missed the tree because my car flew off the road at crazy speeds.

Anyhow it turns out the driver of the other car was someone I went to school with a few years ago, and mind you he is a complete dickhead and it was like his 3rd stack. Good news is the cops knew he was driving like an idiot and was in the wrong, so he'll be charged with whatever they come up with and he has to cover the cost for my car and the other car which got totalled. Anyhow, check out the pics.. I consider myself really lucky to walk away with a fractured rib after everything:

The images are pretty big so I just put them in a folder which you can access below:

If anyone else has had an accident like this or something similar I'd like to hear. Cheers.

You're alive. Good job

looked like a nasty crash.

You're fucking worried about your car?

though it DID save you.

Get well soon.

Posted by DJ Patski on Dec-01-2007 11:53:

I'm not worried about my car. Im annoyed about it simply because I bought it a month ago. Don't get me wrong I'm so bloody greatful that I'm not dead, because I seriously thought I was when my car was spinning out of control and I had no idea where I was going to end up.

My tip of the today: Always buy a car with an airbag lol. You don't plan for things like this to happen but when they do, makes all the difference.

...nice seat covers, they just scream "bogan".

Posted by DJ Patski on Dec-01-2007 16:11:

Good thing I'm not one though.

I actually thought that wouldn't look good with the police, and because I'm a probationary driver but it didn't matter. Cops know whos fault it was and why.

Posted by eRRaTiK on Dec-01-2007 16:16:

totalled!

good to hear you survived.

i grounded my 2004 GTI in similar fashion after having it for only 5 hours... so i guess at least you had yours for a month eh? got creamed at a stoplight. the great policing of baltimore city didn't assign fault so the other guy wasn't responsible but neither was i (and i have no idea how that worked out). basically - no police report so i was stuck to deal with my insurance.

the biggest problem was that with my credit i put 1/2 price down on the car and financed the second half. well my insurance pays either price or repair or the remaining balance on the loan - whichever is lower. the repairs were $500 over the remaining balance so they paid off the loan. now i'm a full owner of a broken vehicle

cheers!

Damn dude. Glad your ok!

I had My car for 3 days i was driving from Ohio to Cali and apparently i couldnt judge this turn right and slammed into the gaurdrail going about 55mph tore up the whole driver side set off all the side airbags. Felt like i got punched in the ribs. The best part i loved that car and didnt want it totaled, the damages didnt even look that bad. By an act of God my insurance decides to fix it! Total cost of damages $9,700 I had a $500 deductable Car is worth about $10,500 Runs like a champ!

get well soon man..
ok it sux about your car but thats why u buy it(to protect u from such shit)_imagine that you were driving a bike!!
of course the big lesson is
1st always fasten your seatbelt despite you are inside a town_village aka low speeds
2nd buy a car with airbags and other safety equipment
3rd thank god after an accident like that and think how important is our ilfe and simple things we dont give a shit normal

Lost a friend 11 months ago in a car accident and its real shit..
one day you speak with him and the other... simply gone

Good to know you're okay, and that he's the one paying for all the damage

for those non oz folks the Holden V8 SS Comodore is exported to other parts of the world as the Pontiac G8. Holden is the Aussie GM brand. the Pontiac GTO is also a Holden Monaro.

Glad to hear nothing worse happened

I haven't been in any car accidents where I would've been the driver or in the car at all, I've always just got hit by cars which have had stupid driver's in them. Anyhow the accident sounds crazy. Also glad to hear that you don't need to pay for the damages, none of it was your fault.

Only about a month or two at most till I get my driver's license Hope I won't get into those situations.

Good luck for the future driving sessions!

P-Plates (Provisional licence), Jim Beam Seat covers, drifting in rain, V8 commodore... young, dumb, no brain idiot bogans.

All things considered you got out of it alright after a 60km/h head on collision with just a broken rib, but that's probably little consolation really when they just wrote off your new car with their stupidity
I hope the morons had insurance! If they didn't take them to court and burn them bad. My late model V8 Calais ended up looking something like that when it got rear ended in the wet and pushed into traffic and it was only dumb luck that no one got hurt at all.

Well, no one except me who had sunk a few thousand into the engine and brakes that wasn't covered by the insurance... that stung.

at first i thought it said "my poor cat" and everyone knows thats the only reason i came in here

It actually works to my advantage that I knew the guy before the crash because I know where he lives but better yet I know his mum. I've been trying to get a hold of him to get his insurance details for 2 days and he's been ignoring my calls. I have no idea why simply because he cannot get out of this, he knows he caused the accident - the police know hes at fault.

I rang his home earlier to speak to him and his mum answered so I went over the situation with her and pretty much said if he doesn't have insurance and I don't get the money I should for my car I'm taking him to court and sueing him. Thing is his family is loaded so his mum will probably end up bailing him out in the event that he doesn't have insurance. Also it's not just my car he has to worry about, an evo got smashed up too.

I really don't want to go to court over this (even know I know I'll win) - it's just so much hassle and bullshit, however I don't think it will get to that.

Sue him for 1 million aussie dollars!
