as far as production goes 2007 was deadmau5's year?

as far as production goes is it safe to say that mau5 takes the crown?

i dont think anyone is going to make any sudden moves and no pun intended haha in the end of dec..

what do you guys think?

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Dec-05-2007 08:38:

No.

Posted by TranceArmstrong on Dec-05-2007 08:41:

nope. nothing against deadmau5, congrats on all his success this year, and his label, etc. But flooding the market with either:

a. Jaded or Faxing Berlin sound-alikes
b. dime a dozen farty bassline tracks

does not constitute producer of the year, as much as I enjoy some of his tracks.

producers of the year IMO:

Jim Rivers, Shlomi Aber, Guy Gerber, 16BL, Jimpster, Apparat, maybe Sebastien Leger

Quoted for quality. Also Charles Webster, Phonique, Carl Craig, Timewriter....could go on for ages before deadmau5 comes into it

Timbaland

Another Deadmau5 thread?

I'm not sure what is meant by "takes the crown," but if we're talking about having generated notoriety, we need look no further than these various threads to say that he has.

Anyway, in terms of quality productions that have marked 2007, I don't see any reason to award Deadmau5 with the overall crown of success. Granted, his tracks are undoubtedly pleasant listens, and despite his style popping up around every corner, it nevertheless remains an effective technique- as a producer, I think it's also fair to say that he's been rather consistent in terms of quality output. But others that more or less run in the same genre circles have been releasing far more interesting content than Deadmau5's discography for the year.

But I will certainly give him credit in regards to him having gotten the Deadmau5 word out and in full circulation in a relatively short timespan. As I said in a separate thread, whether you're fond of his work or not, he's created a noticeable stir across the board.

Deadmaus5 gets the Deadmaus5 award.

For fuck's sake, quit it already.

I do enjoy a few of his tracks but i can hardly say his production is anything but simplistic.

To be considered for producer of the year there needs to be a balance between quality and quantity. Deadmau5 has spread himself far to thin, I'm sorry.

He is a lock for "Most Prolific" or "coolest mouse logo" of the year though.

Matthew Dear aka Audion aka False

it was his year

Deadmau5 gained quite a great amount of popularity in such a short time this year because of Faxing Berlin and some other tunes, but I wouldn't go THAT far and say he was the producer of the year. Lots of good suggestions from previous posters btw.

Posted by PlasticSoul on Dec-05-2007 14:37:

i prefer gareth emery or midor... for example.

Posted by RJT on Dec-05-2007 14:52:

Perhaps when it comes to quantity of productions, but certainly not quality. Deadmau5 has some tracks I really, really enjoy, but far more that I just find mediocre - they're great tracks for the dancefloor, but I just can't seem to get into many of them (particularly the farty house tunes).

I can probably agree with this.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Also, Duderstadt, Simon patterson, Dogzilla, Manuel le Saux, Marcel Woods, Alex M.O.R.P.H and Kyau vs. Albert have has a good year.

But for the win, I am going to have to say Breakfast. He's gone from nowhere to producing top quality tunes in no time, and he's not even 20 yet I don't think.

I think Gui Boratto was my favourite producer this year personally.

I can't really connect with most of his stuff, but his remix of Roadkill is fuckin' amazing!

Posted by woscar on Dec-05-2007 17:52:

I really enjoyed Faxing Berlin, Jaded, Arguru, and Not Exactly. The rest, while not bad are quite average. He's young and very talended IMO, give him some time, he's up for bigger things

Posted by DOOMBOT on Dec-05-2007 17:54:

Guy Gerber takes the crown this year for both his productions and remixes. The guy is outstanding and surprises me with his sound in each and every one of his releases.

I definitely agree with the OP here, at least in the non Hip Hop EDM scene. While some people may not like his songs, he has really come from nowhere to being played fucking everywhere. At one point he had something like 5 songs in beatports top 10 weekly downloads. No producer has had similar success this year as far as widespread play goes.

If you include hip hop, then it's been timbaland for a couple of years now.

Posted by placebo on Dec-06-2007 00:28:

I think he released way too much stuff in a short amount of time, but I guess his stuff was pretty good. Producer of the year? Come on now...for me, a lot of stuff was like fast food dance music, it made you feel good, but after you digested it, you didn't really think about it anymore.
