friskyRadio brings you a very special event this thursday: a two-hour recording of Trafik's liveset captured at the legendary Les Bains Douches in Paris, France. Brought to you exclusively by Trafik and friskyRadio!
Trafik Live @ Les Bains Douches, November 10th, 2007.
Les Bains Douches has a remarkable and glittering history. Once a municipal bath house for the Parisien poor, it was converted into a nightclub in 1978. The club immediately entered Rock & Roll history by playing host to the recording of the much sought after live Joy Division bootleg of the same name, recorded in 1979. Punk legends, the Dead Kennedys and the Psychedelic Furs also dropped in around the same time to rattle the bohemians out of their 70s funk. In recent years, the club has had an overhaul under the experienced eyes of David and Cathy Guetta, both legends of the modern Paris club scene.
Today, it is still going strong with a loyal group of regulars uncommon in this fickle part of the world. It was also the latest choice for Trafik most recent soire in the French capital, ready to provide the soundtrack and charm the Parisian club lizards with their energetic DJ set.
Arriving just after midnight, already there were a people on the floor (mainly the French contingent of the tranceaddict.com forum) slowly getting into the warm-up set. Some nice mid-tempo grooving beats welcomed our anglo-centric group into the basement. Dan Le Sac impressionist and would be horse-trainer Irish Pete immediately set about the vodka and anything remotely female within shouting distance whilst our Mexican friend ordered the tequila shots and showed off his crocodile skin cowboy boots. Anything goes in the Marais thankfully.
Just after 2am, Trafik eventually kicked things off with Hernan Cerbellos Bikibi Bottom on the consistently excellent Baroque and soon we were settled onto the floor. Alternating between Trafik remixes, exclusive bootlegs and outstanding grooves from the likes of Rex the Dog, the crowd were soon showing their appreciation in a style all too often not seen this side of the channel. What with Soft Cell, Tracy Thorn, The Chemical Bros and finally The Killers all thrown in there with a special twist, there was a certain lack of control on the dancefloor. Ian Curtis may have lamented losing that back in 1979 but Trafik had it right there in his fingers.
This set has been captured for you exclusively for FRISKY RADIO.enjoy the music.
