I demand an asian forum on TA

Swamper et al.

I am so longing for the asian forum here at TA; any chance we are going to have one any time soon?

There are local parties in various asian countries in case if you are not aware some which are ZoukOut and others in Goa.

Would be great if we could have a dedicated forum for the same.

Tis a good idea, The trance scene in Goa is pretty big.

No, it isn't

EDM scene then.

Nope.

Why do you think an Asian forum is needed though? The UK/Ireland scene is way more active, but look at their board - dead as a dead dodo.
Don't necessarily need to have a separate forum to discuss music, and the party/rave board should be enough for EDM events, but I guess if there is overwhelming demand for it, I would be more than happy.

Wasn't this thing done though a year or so back? People had to vote if they wanted an Asian forum on TA, and seeing that there isn't one as of now, I don't think there was adequate response.
Though things would have changed now, and an update is in order.

Then why are there Anjunabeats parties there all the time if no one there likes trance?

- Zoukout had AVB and Carl Cox here in Singapore on 8'th Dec
- On the new year's eve there will be a couple of more DJ's playing here on the Sentosa Island
- Ferry Corsten will be soon in Delhi/BBay/Bglore - The three most populated Indian territories
- Am sure there will be other psy-trance parties in Goa/Dubai soon

The scene is picking up quite a lot and I suppose this would be the right time to start for sure and have more TA on the board.

As I said, the UK scene is far more active but there is hardly any proper discussion that takes place. Trance gigs aren't the only factor.

But again, if it happens, I'd me more than happy

Build it, and they will come?

/end Field of Dreams.

I for one, would like a place to discuss Asian scene, as people are reduced to asking on their local forums about Asia

When did I say they don't like it?

Right. Not to piss on your fireworks too much but....

1) there's a correct way to get a forum, there's even a suggestions area with details on how it would be done in theory.

2) Asia is so vast. There's so many countries, how would a forum for that work (eg europe has all our seperate subforums)

3) It's not about building something for people to come, it's about building something for the people who're already here

4) Moderation - with so many languages being spoken, it would be hard to moderate, nigh on impossible. I'm already against the israeli sub-forum on the basis that you can't actually tell what's being said, but with the western languages, eg english, french, spanish, dutch & german, it's easy enough to pick up the gist of something.

5) It just wouldn't work. We need less minority groups & more people banding together on the main forums like this one. TA used to be a lot more diverse but now most people only use their subforum because of how things are here.

You said there is no trance scene there

Yeah, in Goa. All there is is sparse raves and psy-trance events.
It's become heavily commercialised now. I don't know about the rest of Asia, but personally, I don't see the need and the feasibility of a separate forum.

I would have to disagree. Subforums are the best way to actually meet people in real life at parties. TA is more than just talking about music (MD), it's also about meeting music friends at gigs, and subforums are the best way to do that.

We can have individual subforums for obscure locales like Norway, Israel, but you want to stomp your foot down for a huge asian populace? Lame.

The reasons for that is that we have/had users to make those subforums worthwhile (although the norwegian one is quiet) whereas the majority of Asian users are based in other countries, all over europe, north america etc. We have a few, but not many, active users that are based over a huge variety of countries. As I see it, say we add an indian sub-forum, people from maybe china, lebanon or malaysia could argue that they're due one too. It's just such a big area, with so many areas that lumping it into a big subforum like the spanish/portuguese speaking one would not work, especially with the number of languages spoken from country to country, it'd be a bit of a nightmare in that sense.

As for the first comment you brought up. Yeah, local forums have uses, but when it distracts from the community as a whole (like when we had people who'd use both local forums AND the main ones) then it's a bad thing.

Yes. This place was great when people mixed with others & discussed freely. You'd find people from all sorts of countries who'd find friends/allies and that brought a healthy level of banter. Whilst local forums have their purpose, they should never be anything other than secondary. There are way too many people now who never go outside their local forums and it detracts from the website. Adding more local forums therefore should be done extremely carefully and not because people 'demand' it.

I see however that you decided to disregard my other points, probably because you know as well as I do that they're spot on.

This has to do more with the layout of TA as a forum.

I have a similar forum myself (albeit it being hardstyle), and there is a clear distinct between the local subforums and the main forums. In fact most people who participate in the local forums see the main forums as primary and the local forums as secondary.

Additionally, before adding more forums TA should fix one very important issue; that being UTF-8 Unicode support. Without this local forums for Asian countries make absolutely no sense.

Feel free to check out my forum where I have succesfully intergrated subforums in other character sets like Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Russian amongst others
