Unhappy Airwave Quits Djing..

quote:

File>Quit

Hello my friends,

I hope you're doing as well as I am. You might consider the following bad news or either very good news. It's my duty to show you the good side of a decision I took this week.

From now on, you probably won't see AIRWAVE at clubs performing at all, and this for several months or maybe even years. I decided I'd put more time and energy making records as this always has been my core business.

This won't have any negative side- effects on some future bookings or requests prior to this, like the one in Lebanon, also another request in Canada, and I think the very very last one in Ieper/Ypres, in Belgium. If you live in the area, this will probably be your last chance to see an Airwave Live set before a very very long period, because after that, seeing me playing more than once in a year will be a miracle. Not because promoters don't book me, but because I will refuse almost ALL booking enquiries.

This also means my collaboration with Y-catch Agency, has been put to an end, too. So, if you have further requests please send them directly. Keep in mind that, 99 of the 100 requests will be rejected from January 1st, 2008.

So, you might think that's the end?? Well, here's now the good side of things:

First of all, I want to make more music, or at least music that suits me, and I also want to put more attention into detail. This week saw me make incredible music, like I was pushed by this wind of change in my back.

Prepare for a shock, as from now on, I will use every single little bit of this knowledge which I have collected for 11 years. You will hear maximum risk, and many of you will be kinda lost.

Secondly, I want to think further than dance music and its nombrilist-dj's. I want to make music for other media too. The world needs music everywhere, so there are plenty of opportunities in other areas.

Thirdly, I want to explore more of that musical and sound theory and share what I discovered with the others. And the release of Triloops Dance Breaks on loopmasters is just the beginning.

Fourthly, I want to help younger artists develop their careers. I'm thinking here about all those artists who got their first records signed on Banshee. I don't have much knowledge or experience compared to some, but still, I am willing to share it at least.

That said, I REALLY enjoyed performing sets in all those locations.

I will NEVER EVER forget the crazy people at the Landscape Party in Tokyo, Japan, the "Happy Birthday" being sung by enthusiastic fans in Istanbul Turkey, the Culture shock in Qatar, the Fantastic crowd at Blade in Budapest, the huge mess in Estonia, Tomorrowland and my friends who could finally see this too, my broken luggage/headphones and Keyboards Courtesy of Czech Airlines last August, but especially Progress your Mind at Dopler, Bratislava, all those signs of friendship and joy that you've been showing for 2 years.

Thanks a million times in advance for this. I will try organizing something special for that very last date, but can't promise anything!

After all, only memories remain. Let's make sure they're good for everyone.

Now it's time for... File>Save>Close>New document_..

Good news. If he feels he should focus more on creating music, then that's what he should do.

Posted by rawbound on Dec-11-2007 23:56:

Yeah. that's the part I like about him anyways.

indeed. Laurent is on his day a very gifted producer who needs to spend more time creating and less rehashing quickly. If this makes that possible, then brilliant.

i have to agree. though i would have loved to see him behind the decks..

Not entirely related to the live Dj sets, but will he continue to do his radio shows? Or is it simply no sets whatsoever from him?

On a side note - i liked his sets although sets vs making more music, well making more music would be the winner for me.

He's cried wolf before. He'll be back behind the decks in 3 months tops.

well done all you bashers. well done

he mentioned to me he was leaving the dj scene. i think its a wise move if it means more time will be focused on writing music.

Posted by idoru on Dec-12-2007 19:13:

I'd never really heard anybody talk about his DJ sets, so... meh.

He will still be doing his radio show, he confirmed this yesterday. He still sees this as a good way for promoting his new music. I I've always liked his show so good news

and in a couple of months I'm going the see him in Belgium when he will be playing his last set

first a tsunami, then Katrina, and now this? What a mindnumbing blow to all that once was.

Posted by Magadansky on Dec-12-2007 20:17:

Never heard a set from him but he has produced some very nice melodic trance tracks through the years, so I hope it's for the best to keep doing that.

you talk as if this time around he's gona quit for sure cause he mentioned it to you.

Posted by R!CH on Dec-13-2007 04:11:

well that kinda sucks i won't be able to hear what kind of music he likes to play, but i fell in love with his productions so i'm glad he's committing himself fully to that. lolo is brilliant.

Posted by DJLafleur on Dec-13-2007 05:31:

He does make good music(i especially like sunspot with AVB)

Posted by Stanza on Dec-13-2007 05:59:

I don't think him quitting will be a major loss to the djing community.

He is far more renowned for his productions and remixes. I think this is defintely a move in the positive direction for him to concentrate more on producing.

Can't wait for the new Lolo album to come out.

Pretty sure I remember him claiming that he was quitting producing maybe last year or the year before. Then he decided to change his mind again I take it?

Posted by refuge on Dec-13-2007 11:38:

Show some respect, guys. Best of luck to you L-Vee. Ashame LA never had a chance to see you rip it up live. I still won't lose hope, though. I'm all for you taking time off to focus on your productions; I'm sure they will only get better. At least your radio show will continue so that way we can still catch your mixes.

Best,
Rez

hearing he is spending more time in the studio is never a bad thing

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Dec-13-2007 17:26:

Heh, the guy releases an album every 2 months as it is... God knows how many we'll get when he has more time in the studio
