pc video help?
So i tried playing C&C 3 yesterday, it starts, and crashes to desktop.
tried CS. same thing.
then i tried tf2 and it said : cannot create 3d device...etc
so i ran the dxdiag.exe to see what the problem was, everything SEEMS to be going fine, but when i run my d3d test, it gives me these 2 errors:
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)
now, all these games were working a month ago, and i cannot recall doing anything that would have made it disable some kind of setting or what not.
i've tried:
-reinstalling ati drivers
-reinstalling direct x 9.0c
-installing direct x 10
-monitor refresh rate
-yelling
-trying to boot the games from direct x8
uninstall you drivers, run driver cleaner, then reinstall the latest, i think at are the cat 7.12's
should work.
jenny obviously knows fuck all about...anything..
is it a new video card? or have you been playing all these same games for a while now? (i know you said last month, but does that mean the card is only a month old?)
no my card's pretty old, its an x800.
i duno im gonna tinker with it for a bit tonight before i go to the gym.
try the omega drivers:
http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php
"They are based on the Official ATI Catalyst 7.10 drivers, but unlike them, these will work with AGP cards just fine"
I've had that problem with BF2 once.
My solution was re-installing the .Net 2.0 framework (which is on the microsoft website, google it)

I have a question about framework. Maybe it's just my lack of understanding about how it's installed, but why do you need to have 1.0 before you can have 2.0? Why couldn't 1.0 be incorporated into 2.0? Seems silly.
