Red face I feel good by not caring about religion.

religion, imo, is stupid...

i don't understand how mankind depends so much on religion.

It's more freeing for me not to worship anyone or care about something almighty that i have no proof of.

i got really angry when i saw a girl get KILLED because of liking someone of another religion.

i might go straight to hell but yet again, how do i know there is one?

i just wanted to share my thoughts and see if there is anyone out there that thinks somewhat similar...

i'm supposed to be catholic, hahaha

While yes I think somewhat similarly, I totally understand why people want, need, or have religion.

I was raised without religion, I do not feel it is needed nor do I feel there is something missing in my life. My morals and values come from a conscious determination of what I feel is just, right, and fair.

Religion has driven people to do some really terrible things, even driven a people to war many, many times. But it has also done an incredible amount of good within communities, and given people hope where they might not otherwise have it.

true. you just need to understand that religion fills the gaps in people's lives when they can't find a decent replacement.. just get a life and religion will become redundant

I'm Catholic, and I'm working on reforming the Church as we speak.

a good start might be to actually do some serious research. Maybe read a book about different religions, or spend more than 5min thinking about it in between drinks on a lonely Saturday night. people are so lazy. sit and whine about religion (because all religious people are extremist terrorists who don't believe in evolution, and that mormon cult wants to take over America and rule the oil fields of "the Iraq"), but have no substance because they haven't ever taken more than 30min to seriously investigate meaning to existence or how religion could ever play a part into that.

Well there are a lot of people who are religious too that ironically don't know a whole lot about their religion. They may go to church every week but beyond that they don't do a whole lot of investigation into the religion they belong to.

There are a lot of atheists or agnostics out there that probably know a lot more about religions than the people who belong to them. IMO this is because the more one learns about religion the more they start to see how much of it is bullshit. The simple fact that there are many religions throughout the world is testament to the idea that religion is mainly an imagination of humans. I think it's insanity to profess that your religion is the one "true" religion where there are so many other religions throughout the world with different beliefs...how can you really say and prove that one religion is correct over all others? I believe religion has the power to enhance lives but also the power to ruin them, depends on how its used and what is believed.

funny, the more I learn about various types of religions, the more interested I become.

I'm hard-pressed to think of anything that couldn't be considered a result of man's imagination - money, politics, love - none of it 'exists', yet it's just as real as most anything else to us.

I do not discount the value of religion to human beings. It, as most everything else, is a double-edged sword. I do firmly hold that many religious people are quite ignorant of not only their own faith, but of many others as well - and that most would do well to free themselves of this ignorance as well as be more critical of everything, not just religion.

This is a joke post, right?

Please tell me you're only kidding.

If it's true, your knowledge on religions is no doubt extremely pathetic. Free yourself of the hegemony and do some reading on world religions - the major ones are complex, yet do not give you a full story or view. Try reading up on concepts like gnosticism, mystery cults of Rome, The Process Church of the Final Judgment, Jonestown, asceticism - I think you might just find your interest enhanced once you realize just how fanatical people can be with some of the most alien of concepts.

So true, I'm catholic myself, yet I've met so many ignorant Christians and Muslims in my lifetime. They all swear by their beliefs and they praise the Vatican church/Mecca when the majority are either unaware or too thick headed to realize the history of the establishments. I've always believed in free thinking and it doesn't matter whether you're religious or an atheist, as long as you treat your fellow man with respect. In high school I chose to stay throughout my science course and study the whole evolutionary/big bang theory. I remember a couple of the muslim and catholic kids raising their hand and asked the teacher to leave because it was against their beliefs, the teacher obliged and let them go.

Yeah, that sort of shit irks me to no end.

You don't have to accept or believe everything you are told or learn about - in fact, it's much better if you are skeptical of it all at first. If people still want to hold that the Earth is flat because the church says so, so be it. That's their choice. It's dumb as hell, but if they choose that, then there's nothing I can or should do about it other than argue with them about how they are wrong. They should be able to justify it though - back it up with something. It's not ideal, but that's how respect of beliefs works. Telling people they are straight up wrong because 'science says so' is not far enough different than religious edict - it's all an appeal to authority, and healthy thinkers should know enough to always be critical of authority, no matter its manifestation or their set of beliefs.

Exactly, too bad there's nothing in any of the "holy books" that explain our tail bone, yet the evolutionary theory makes it clear as crystal. I've challenged many aspects of the bible before with some of my thick headed relatives and friends over the years. I would get lame fucking responses like "god is always watching...talk like that will only anger him.. Do you want to go to hell" ... I almost told my uncle to fuck off once in a family gathering 2 years ago when we were going back and forth on this subject. I angered him when I told him that the actions of the Vatican church and the "Holy" Knights templar were murderers who tried to force their beliefs to villagers and less privileged common folk, it was so much fun.
