Morning Psy versus Regular Psy

What is the difference between morning psy and regular psy trance? Is it more than just the tempo? Is morning psy the more melodic while regular psy more driving and techy sounding? I'm hearing the term more and more and it confuses me a little.

If anybody has a great set that clearly marks it as one of these types I'd love to hear it!

Thanks!

Yes, you got it. "Morning psy" is a way of saying psy that is a little less psychedelic, more melodic and probably uplifting, optimistic or euphoric in mood. That is of course in contrast to being trippy, acidic, crazy, angry, murderous-clown-esque etc.

I like both sorts.

Dark psy is more techy sounding and also the most psychedelic of psytrance generally nowdays... this stuff oft has influences from industrial and techno... check out cybnetikas warpcore 3 (which I bumped recently) for a great darkpsy mix. Hopefully he'll redo the link though or get his site back up soon
Morning psy is never psychedelic but is uplifting and melodic
Full on psy is allways tries hard to be dancey... imo on average this is the worst genre... theres some nice full on psy but theres tons of shite
Psytrance... basicly other

According to a thread at psynews atm theres also something called midnight psy... which I kind of agree exists. That'd be stuff like rinkadink etc

I don't like the generic kick sound that you hear in most Psy tracks. If anyone has a different kind of psy set then please pass it along.

Speaking of Nasa, is there any word on when his album would be released?

Correct me if I am wrong

Dark Psy

Midnight Psy? Dark progressive psy? I personally just like to call it Opium Psytrance or Deep Psytrance.

Afternoon Psy? I always see this stuff being played during the day in videos.
p.s. If you want that track msg me and I'll give you a link

First is defenitly dark (obviously) great track btw. Very good track for showcasing dark psy...
Second... sounds like morning to me (that and Cosma is usually a morning psy artist ). Sure as hell isn't anything dark about it... doesn't sound terribly progressive either (or deep)
Third... sounds like your standard full on (although a reasonably good track I guess)

More opinions please

Posted by RebeL9 on Dec-16-2007 08:20:

your example of morning psy isn't very good since Cosma mostly produced a darker type of full on psy.

Here is a better example of morning psy:

Posted by s3nate on Dec-16-2007 08:26:

What about this?

I keep thinking it is something you would play at night, but people think it is morning psy? What exactly is morning psy then?

Posted by RebeL9 on Dec-16-2007 08:32:

as already mentioned morning psy is the type which have a happy, melodic and uplifting vibe. I think the name derives from those open air parties where they played the dark and heavy stuff during the night and played the melodic sets during the sunrise.

Explain to me how people dance (let alone go nuts) to darkpsy like Kindzadza? I really don't get it! I really think it is just stupid weird glitchy music.

The only darkpsy I can see people dancing to is stuff like n3xu5 which is a little more driving.

Is there such thing as full on dark psy?

Posted by RebeL9 on Dec-16-2007 08:56:

haha people dance to all kinds of weird stuff. jumpstyle and hardstyle for instance
so it's not more weird than that.
I dunno but the stuff Cosma did I would say had a dark edge to it. Even though he was classified as a full on producer. He was a hell of a producer. Too bad he died.

Posted by s3nate on Dec-16-2007 10:17:

I just find darkpsy to be so... flat and boring. There isn't that much build or anything.

Or I could be listening to the wrong stuff.
