What do the Holidays mean to you???

Survey time...

What do the Holidays mean to you???

To me... it means spending lots of money that I don't have on nephews and nieces.

But it also one of my most favorite times of the year. I try to stay positive all year long and hope that it rubs off on to other people around me. During the Holiday seasons, it just seems to work a little better...

How do you guys feel?

I feel the same way.

The many times i went down to Mexico and had CHRISTmas down there i loved more then anything.

Down there its not really about buying gifts so much, they by SMALL gifts for each other celebrating baby Jesus (mainly just for the kids). They do NOT buy gifts because of Santa clause (the PI and a lot of other countries are like this also). The irony there is Santa is already moving in to Mex (and those other countries) and pushing out the "real roots" of Navidad. So in reality its only a matter of time until the roots get washed out

So yeah, while down there its more about partying and being with family, over here its about running your credit cards to the point u need to call them to get a higher limit (i have been c/c free since two thousand three) and spending a few hours (that feel like eternity) with family.

Cliff notes: We are very commercialized/materialized when it comes to Christmas, while other countries are not.

Its all about spending time with family. I only buy gifts for a select few (immediate family & girlfriend). I don't feel an obligation to buy everyone gifts.

It's all about the presents. But wierd when someone gets you something and you got shit for them. Hooray presents.

I think holidays are the best marketing tool for people to spend money on gifts.

Luckily, I don't follow the society. I don't feel like I need to buy people gifts. One of my biggest holiday petpeeves are when I hear people say "ughh, i have to go buy so and so a gift for xmas".

Since when do you "have" to?

I also don't like it when I have to go to the mall to quickly buy something for myself during the holidays, and I have to deal with the parking lot being full, long ass lines to get to the register, and just a mall packed with too many people, in general.

The one thing I do appreciate about the holidays though, is that it's a good excuse to bring families together.

prime rib, miller lite, and college football.

...and im also a bit bitter that our capitalist society has turned this into a 30 shopping cluster fuck, where we can all double the debt that we have accumulated prior to thanksgiving.

Well done department stores of the ealry 1900's

I'd have to agree with you all the way on this one. I LOVE the holidays. Reminds me of all the good times as a kid. Love all the lights in the streets, the better spirits, just the overall vibe in general. There's also the anticipation of New Year's Eve, which means partying!!

It's also a good way to keep in touch with people you've lost contact with over the years, especially those that are distant.

It's also one of the longest lasting holidays... New Year's also represents a new start, new goals, new beginnings, clean slate, and another year to look forward to.

for me, now, it means going home to atlanta to be with my family! i only get to see them twice a year and i miss and love them so much. my family has always been super close and we always have so much fun together. i also get to spend time with old friends back home and visit with their kids.

it also brings back all the times when i was little and making cookies, sitting by the fire, playing in the snow, sitting around the lighted tree with all the other lights off talking with my family, i mean seriously, i know it sounds like a hallmark moment but my mom always made christmas feel really special and it was always about the family and the birth of Jesus and the whole reason we celebrate it.

we never believed in santa claus and we were pretty poor growing up so it was never about the gifts, although they are nice to get, i love more, to watch people open the gifts that i get them and hope they enjoy them as much as i enjoyed getting it for them.

anyways, that's what they mean to me. i love the lights, the sounds, the smells, the sights, everything! and the idea of a new year and starting out fresh is always a nice feeling.

oh yeah and of course all the partying, but don't i do that almost every weekend? lol
