Unhappy Missing the decks

Earlier this year my brother moved out of the house and with his move he took his technics, cdj's and mixer.

I used to use the decks daily and maybe 3 or 4 hours a day. Up until the last month or so i've not missed them terribly much, but now I really don't know what to do with myself. I'm a student with a part time job so I'm not earning nearly enough to consider a new set up yet.

I have so many good tunes that I'm buying right now and nothing to mix them with. What makes it even worse is I'm still playing the odd gig now and again and it's really hard when your out of practice and don't know your tunes well (what mixes well etc).

I've tried replacing them with other passtimes but being a serial wanker is hard work..

My advice to anyone who ever considers getting rid of their set up for whatever reason is, DON'T - there really is no substitute for a good mix up.

you gotta call your brother and tell him to move back immediately!

that's the only solution i see for you unless you suddenly get enough money from somewhere to buy all the gear you need!

well, it's not the same, but the best thing i can suggest is to screw with Ableton for a while. you can still see what tracks fit eachother, and who knows, might even like it.

just please don't end up using Ableton as a "digital deck". if you ever decide to break it out live, make sure to be doing something particularly interesting.

or, hell, thought of taking up production?

I know how you feel

My CDJs and mixer are at home in NC due to a security issue here in GA (roommates = suck). At least I have a friend that I can practice with once every couple of weeks.

Try asking around to see what other local DJs are in your area, and see if you can join them to practice?

Having your own decks = essential

I was away from my decks for 4 months and just got reunited a few days ago.

I have been mixing almost every waking hour since
