I miss thursday nights at Sizzle.

dirty south was fuck'n SICK!!! mixing was flawless. track selection was phenomenal. finished w/ his remix of "the end". the crowd was loving it. at times i had to remind myself that it was actually a wednesday. lol. after a 12 hour shift at work, this was a perfect way to relieve the stress. good to see a bunch of people from toronto come down to our neck of the woods.

music 8.5/10
vibe 9/10

congrats mark & owen on another successful night. the look on your faces tonight was priceless...

Had a really good time last night. Great opening set by Owen and Vinny and then DS completely destroyed it! So many huge bombs.. one after another. The crowd on the other hand sucked, probably one of the pushiest I've ever dealt with. I couldn't go a minute without someone walking by in an aggressive manner. The music was awesome enough to make me not really care about this though

I'm so glad that I was able to see the show that was supposed to happen at the drink (I attended that one as well). It was a real treat to see the remixer of the year (in my opinion) in such a small venue. I explained to my girlfriend that it was like seeing Green Day @ The Phoenix in Toronto. My only complaint about DS himself was that he dragged out a few of his teases way too much. I don't think he could've sampled The Things You Say and It's Too Late for any longer. At least he actually PLAYED TTYS. I was shocked that he went into another track after almost 10 minutes of teasing It's Too Late.

Owen's closing set was remarkable as well. Love this guys energy! Although I think any dj would be pumped as hell if you were dj'n alongside dirty fucking south!!

Did anyone else see the guy wearing the G-Unit t-shirt? LOL! So out of place. I even took a picture of him. I'll be posting it along with the many videos I took tomorrow night

p.s. - how much of a treat was it that water was only $2.50?! I love how that's consider cheap to most of it, lol.

Posted by samhouse on Dec-20-2007 18:19:

the water was a pleasant surprise!

Might I say that when he was teasing these songs, he was literally creating remixes on the spot out of his prior work. What he did with both Things you say and Its too Late was some remarkable djing. He also teased higher state of conciousness and dropped a fantastic version of La La Land.

I want to see him at the gallery or zone so i can watch the man work those decks.

Posted by kotsy on Dec-20-2007 19:11:

I agree.. it was magnificient dj'n, but I just think he did it for too long, which eventually became annoying. My gf getting so angry because she wanted him to just drop it already, lol. I think the La La Land remix was him playing the acapella over an instrument (same goes for when he teased the things you say).

I agree about gallery or zone. He'd completely own those rooms. Nothing would be better than seeing DS @ CZ at noon

i was so pumped on coming to this event, but my 9-5 had other plans for me this morning... glad to hear he delivered though! he always seems to...

DS is probably one of the best dj's I have seen live, I had the pleasure to actually watch him dj in the booth for the night and let me say that this guy knows what he is doing. The mix of La La Land was actually just a beat he looped, and the huge build up you heard along with the lyrics from Green Velvet were all done by dirty south LIVE!! I picked DS up from his hotel room to bring him to the club, he is a super nice guy and down to earth, I mentioned to him that Owen, Skinny, and Myself were opening for him and it would of been nice if he was there to hear the sets. His reply "I had to catch a nap and eat some pizza" Anyways, the music was unbelievable and my ears were ringing when I woke up the next morning. That could of been from Owen's fucking whistling though. hahahah.

Posted by samhouse on Dec-21-2007 21:20:

I thought that green velvet part sounded whacked

in a good sense that is

Who was spinning right after DS finished? Was it Owen or Vinny?

Posted by samhouse on Dec-21-2007 23:02:

Owen

Posted by kotsy on Dec-21-2007 23:31:

I'm not sure who else I may have meet here (besides Ania_xox and Zentac). One person told me their name but it didn't click and I forgot it about 10 seconds later. If that was anyone here please speak up

Did you at least catch all of DS's set?

Posted by Fuscus on Dec-22-2007 06:03:

I'm so pissed I missed this! I organized a trip from TO for this, but our car broke down on the QEW in Oakville around midnight...still made a good night of it back in TO though.

Sloppy drunken night of nonstop dancing. Sorry to any toes I stepped on, but i was in a real rush to get more to drink I swear. It's not often I have that much fun of a Wednesday night.

HUGE THANKS to everyone who supported our Nightdreamer event! I was waiting for that night for a solid three months and dance around my room for a good half hour when we had news the booking was confirmed.

The day of the event went really smooth. Traffic on the way back from the airport was messy as hell. But we arrived in Hamnilton with plenty of time.

Dirty South is a MACHINE! 35 gigs in 45 days for his north american tour? The guy is playing tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday almost every week. sleeping 5-6 hours a day in two different shifts. a few hours after the flight and a few hours after the gig before the next flight in the morning. He said he hasn't been home to Australia in over 6 months

from 9 to 10 O'Clock was probably he longest hour ever! waiting waiting waiting for the doors to open. I started the night of with some chilled out melodic techno, the as the room started filling up I moved into some more progressive stuff. The room was full pretty quickly...by 11:30 maybe. by that time I started to play a little more commercial electro/house. familiar tracks for the crowd to get em' warmed up and moving.

Dirty South. WOW what a dj! some really incredible mixing! The guy played amzing all night and the Nightdreamer crowd was eating it up. I was jumping around like a maniac for almost 3 hours. lol. Most f the stuff he played I've never heard before...some wicked wicked music.

It was mos def an amazing nght for me! thanks again to everyone who came out for the Nightdreamer christmas jam! Dirty South to enjoy himself as well.

Owen Thomas - Nightdreamer
