Love is in the air [trance] Midnight On Mars - Falling With Stars // 320 kbps

Hey all you addicts..

I'm new to the site, found it through some friends from another forum, and thought I'd check it out.

I'm working almost daily on my music, trying to perfect my style, though I still have a long way ahead of me, to reach the genre I'm aiming for.

The track is called "Falling With Stars" and is my latest workpiece, and even though I've been working on it for ages, there's still a lot that needs to be done, but for now...check out:

You're more than welcome to post whatever thoughts you have about the track.. I can take whatever critics you'll have for me..

The kick is too flat, the kick needs more body
And the same counts for the rest of your song
You play nice notes no wrong ones
But imho you use all the wrong sounds
The music sounds nice but is bodyless
There is no power at all in non of the sounds

I fear that you used eq on all your sounds
And have filtered out most of the low eq range
Thats why all the sounds sound so punchless
And you can also use some better sounds in the groundwork of your song
The baseline that you use has no body eighter
Better basedrum and a more solid basesound on the baseline
That will give the song a lot more ballz
And the drums in the break need to be louder aswell

Just watch the meters on your sequencing program
Kick has to be on the loudest level
Snare hats and other drums have to be hearable next to the kick
Since the kick is loudest in vollume you also need to put your drum voll high
Its acompagnying drums in trance music
Thats true But the drums are not supossed to be background music

I think you can make beautifull tunes because the notes are lovely
But you need to or put more base in when you eq your sounds
Or choose stronger sounds especialy for drums and base
Because thats the foundation on which you build your song
And we want that to be strong as thats the red line
Kick and baseline come in first at most songs
So those are the instruments that are mixed together with other powerfull songs
So if your sound is not powerfull enough
Then its not as nice to mix it into another song because of the powerloss

THe final mix of this track makes it very hard to know what you were actually looking to do with this track.

It could be that this is not intended that this is meant as a dance floor monster in which case you have partly acheived your goal. The drums sound as if the intention was meant to be more ambient as does the over all composition.
I still feel that you have been far too mean with the low end and that needs to be looked at.

If you were looking for something dance floor friendly then all the advice above comes into play for sure. I would also say that the rythm track needs more work in terms of composition it's pretty basic at the moment.

In terms of musical composition it's a very nice track.

Cheers

I'm reviewing this as if it is not designed for a dance floor. If it was then see the first reply :P

Hmm, actually on second thoughts i can't tell whether it was. It sounds a bit fast for a track thats supposed to be quite chilled. Other than that its got some really nice sounds in it and is quite layed back, so I'm not sure what to think.

Ok given the ending i'm back to assuming this wasn't meant for a floor. Its good, but not amazing and i'm afraid i can't put my finger on it. Keep at it is all I can say

Cheers,
Alex

Omg, thanks for the comments you all..

Actually..I'm not sure either where my still is heading right now, but I hope that my music one day will hit the dance floor, and therefore I'm really happy for the replies I got here, since none of my irl-friends are into the trance-genre, so whenever I play one of my tracks for them they'll just tell me "yeah, it sounds good...can we listen to some music now?"

But your comments gave me something to work with...and I'll defenitely be posting here again, when I have updates...

But 'til then, thanks alot guys.. Especially the first poster (can't remember your name, but you know who you are).
