Ableton Live file problem

Wassup everyone,
I have the a stooped problem and I want to know where exactly ti comes from.I use Ableton live 6 and I'm working on a project which used to be till yesterday around 4 mb file.It took me before around 5 mins to open and since yesterday the file is 6mb+ and it doesn't want to open in any way.The pc hangs and I get the message "Live faces a serious problem and needs to close"
Im running a Core 2 duo 2.4 with 1 gb of Ram should I get ram to open that file or are there other options possible
thank you all

...shit happens

it works but with more ram

Surely you have more than one save for a project file? I easily run over 30 for just one track, saving at specific points when major changes are made.

I will start doing this from the next project many people told me the same. But first I have to get some Ram to open that File.
Btw how do u save them ?? Maybe: Project One save one/Save 2/Save 3??

For example the track I'm working on is called Airgate.

The first save was: Airgate (1)
2nd: Airgate Percussion (2)
3rd: Airgate Pads Fixed (3)

...and so on. The first is obviously the name of the track, the following words indicate what I changed/added/fixed and the number is what save file it is so I know in which order they are.

Everyone has their own methods but works for me and since save files are pretty small anyway, they all stay on there and when I'm done I can just burn them all to a DVD or onto an external HDD.

Makes it much easier to go back in the project or check up on something.

I remember something similar to this happening to me before, I can't say exactly if it was but I do remember what I did to remedy it. In one of the Ableton folders, there's a preferences.cfg file (I'm pretty sure it's in Program Files) that's basically causing this to happen. Deleting it will allow Live to open again, but you'll have to redo all of your preferences.

Fixed the problem guys with 3 GB of ram they were on Sale lol
Now it opens in 10 seconds lol

Heh, nice. Don't get slack though, develop a naming system and learn to make lots of copies. You will be glad in the long run

Thanx man
I just want to ask i finished that project and I tried beatmatching it with every program that is available lol. I first thought that Ima bad Dj but i started downloading some demos and it doesn't want to beatmacth even on Software; now is this about the quality, I mean will the next stages (mixing & mastering) will make it better or that is becasue of the main structure of the tune?
I want to make a Dj friendly tune

Posted by Fledz on Dec-25-2007 13:30:

It doesn't want to mix? How so?

Posted by Khayat on Dec-25-2007 13:32:

its not eay to mix it clicks with normal tunes lol

this shit happened to me a few times ... switch off all vsts before you save and close the application, next time it'll easier for cpu to open up a project

unless you delete those vsts from the project it won't...I think that ableton is one of the few that keep the CPU power for VSTs even if muted...(me thinks it's the same for the on/off switch, I might be wrong, though!)

rather not i mean if you mute the channel with vst without sitching off the vst itself it will keep the cpu busy, but it won't if you switch it off using "device activator" as it's wisely called in ableton

i use it all the time

Posted by Khayat on Dec-28-2007 12:13:

i will try this and see

It's just the on/off button which every plugin has. Next to the arrow.

i think u may just mute the channels.. like hitting F1, F2, F3... etc.. but it doesn't switch off the plugin, and the cpu/ram is still used
