Review - Tony Rohr and Chris Liebing at FW

Simply Wow!

Got to FW with Jenn at around 12. The place was buzzing and slowly filling up.

Jamie Kidd sounded pretty experimental at first. He mostly played minimal and was a good warmup. At times, it sounded like he was playing his own loops instead of tracks. The end of his set was banging and was a perfect setup for Rohr to follow own.

I was surprised of the looks of Rohr. Nice black shirt and a tie, so not underground! lol I thought he was going to play minimal....I was wrong...and thank god. He played hard and banging Techno. The crowd loved it!.

He was so banging that I thought there would be no way Liebing can top it of...WRONGGGGG

Liebing took over and ripped everyone's a new one! Liebing was sick, period!!!! Liebing looks like satan with his eyes, trippy to look at him! He played right through metalogic's slot. Then at 5am he was told to cut it off...he was ready to go longer!!

Both Rohr and Liebing were smiling and having a great time.

Overall....best party of 2007!

yeah rohr and leibling were both ridiculous!

Pounding beats, crowd was pretty amped the whole time, everyone was loving it!

Hate how they just end it at 5 though... I felt he still had a lot more in him

I doubt they made him end then, they woulda probably just had to pay him more if he played longer

Is 'halifax' referring to halifax, nova scotia? because i think this song is from a berlin DJ.... and was very surprised to see he had a song with 'halifax' in the title

Wow was right. It was techno Christmas for us at FW

All of the sets were amazing. Great opener from Jamie as well!

Once Rohr was done playing, I honestly didn't think that Liebing was gonna be able to top his set, but he certainly did a great job matching up. It isn't very often that you hear dj's playing such a banging set as Liebing did these days, but it was certainly great to hear.

I was exhausted by the end of it and expecting to be out of FW by just after 4am (when Liebing was suppose to end), but getting an extra hour was an added bonus, but poor Pat had to drive home cuz I was falling asleep I was so tired.

I will say one thing though. I love the energy from both Rohr and Liebing. And the fact that Liebing pretty much had a smile on his face the whole night. As much as I normally don't care about such things, it is awesome to see when it does happen!

The crowd I was with for the majority of the time, made it that much more fun. Cribby, Vince, Frankie, Jamie and Pat...it was a blast guys!

And Gera how did I not know of your love for techno?!?!?! It was a pleasure having you there and I can't wait to see you out more often at these events now

Ive never heard tony play "minimal". His sets are pretty consistent (banging/rolling techno)

Not only is he super talented, he is also a very cool guy. Very humble, respectable. He is like a diamond in the rough, i think hes really gunna start turning heads in the new year. I spoke to him briefly and i asked him if we would see him in detroit for the festival. he said it was in the works and most likely a yes. Very pumped to see what suprizes he will have in store for the festival as djs usually bring out their bag of tricks!

All sets were fucking class! Liebing played a lot better then the last time out! I like how he didn't even play a single techno anthem. Very original, i like how he has started in a new direction once more!

The crowd was A+ too. People were really into the music and so were the djs. Jamie Kidd put on a great show. GJ Footwork!

Big Ears

anyone recall if Liebing played "C" or "D"...

I seem to recall thinking he did at the time. When I got home I replayed the two tracks to refresh my memory on their sound...

but still cant seem to confirm for myself if i did in fact hear either of these two tracks.

Sucks to have missed it, but good to hear it was a good bangin' techno set from front to back, and that everyone seemed to have enjoyed it all.
I'm excited to see what happens for techno in TO in 2008. 2007 was great.

(Can't wait to hear the sets when they get posted.)

I think I remember reading that Alex had a great/memorable gig in Halifax in the summer which I reckon inspired this release.
He's a really nice guy, glad I got to see him a few times in Montreal.

Techno party in Halifax?

I grew up there..... never knew there was a techno scene!

Good to hear though for sure!

Chris Liebing was even booked in Halifax for a Saturday night gig in 2003 or 2004 I believe.
