In all honesty, its a different perspective too look at a situation. I actually salute will for thinking outside the box in a society that persecutes creative thinking. I'ms sure he knew what he would say would be torn apart by the media. I salute him for having the balls to say what he feels.

I also salute hiler for being a smart leader. what he did is truly incredible for a human being to do.

He's kind of right though, with the 2nd quote. Look at George Bush.

Yeah - I don't think what he said is really all that crazy from the standpoint that he's trying really, really hard to find the good in everyone - but for someone who's as public a figure as he is to say something so obviously inflammatory seems pretty thick.

Plus, I don't think it would be too hard to argue that Hitler was a pretty bad person.

yeah totally, i mean, everyone is basically doing what they're doing intending to help humanity or at least themselves, very few people get up in the morning and say, "how can i make myself least satisfied and most fucked over today"

He was probably taken a bit out of context because a statement like that calls for a lot of explanation but in essence.. he's right as much as we don't like to believe it.

Not that "Hitler was a good person," because he wasn't. He did some of the most evil things a person can do and seemed to feel no remorse. I think that Smith may have had something like the following in mind, but ended up putting it in a really fucking clumsy way:

The Nazis were not some kind of "robots" or "demons" made of pure evil. They were just human beings. They loved their kids and their parents and their wives and their pets like everybody else. They felt the thrill of great music and great art. They enjoyed a nice afternoon relaxing in the country as much as anyone. They celebrated Christmas and were probably kind to each other during the holiday season. Lots of them probably even gave to charity.

And yet they still did what they did. That, to me, is much scarier than the idea that they were just some sort of "killing machines," which is sort of how they are portrayed a lot of the time. That a group of people can be "normal" and even genuinely kind to their own but horrifically murderous to others.

But most of the time people prefer to distance themselves from the horror by talking as if all the Nazis ever thought about was killing killing killing. As if they weren't even human. But they were.
