Xmas food stash thread

Ok that was a successful evening

If I learnt anything back in my M&S days, it was that shops throw out a colossal amount of food on Christmas Eve. All food with Best Before/Useby dates of the 24th, 25th and 26th Dec HAVE to be thrown out. Some shops around here slash prices instead to get rid of it.

Today was a good haul. We went there specifically for this (and so did other people). With 30 minutes until shop closing, fresh turkeys priced at 49 were sold for 10. Lots of meat was slashed in price, the entire of the deli section was sold off cheap.

Overall we worked out we got 350 worth of food for 75. That includes 4 turkeys (we'll eat one, give one or two away to neighbours and freeze the rest), lots of meat including round roast, rib roast, lamb racks and spiced beef (1). There were rashers, sausages, mince, a whole crate full of organic veg (3.99), bread rolls and loads of other stuff.

Heres pics of the stash. 75 for ALL THIS.

A bit of a disclaimer Noone moan about '3rd world kiddies would love this you greedy overweight fucks go die '. 95% of what we bought is freezable, so it will be put in the freezer for a few months. This food would have been thrown out at the shop anyway. I guarantee that almost none of this food will be wasted.

Kind of a nice Christmas present Will mean no shopping for a few months

One should always be suspect of discount meat.

Posted by THE_Chris on Dec-24-2007 22:48:

Nah its perfectly good, only reason its discounted is because of bestbefore/useby dates, which are absolute rubbish. It'll be fine for days, and since most of it will be frozen it'll be fine in a few months time.

Famous last words imo.

holy shit, I hadn't thought of that. I love m&s food. Their platters of ham & beef are to die for, their chicken is good and I love their pork medalions with braeburn apple & sage stuffing!

Posted by THE_Chris on Dec-24-2007 23:45:

M&S dont really sell cheap food unfortunatly, they prefer to throw it all out instead This was done at Dunnes Stores, a stereotypically Oirish store.

M&S food for the fucking win though their Chinese takeaways are insane.

ohhh lol i read it as m&s and yeah, i love their food. Stupid to throw it out though
