Question What companies have best international call rates?

I want to dial some peepz in Australia and London (UK) to wish them happy xmas/new year so any suggestions for best international call rates?

Not going to happen. Unless you're saying if I call using skype to a regular phone/cell is a good rate.

Let's assume the people I'm calling are internet/pc newbies.

Do I have to buy a physical card? if so, where from?

Are there any services where I can just dial an access code or pin and it gets charged to my rogers home phone bill or something?

ya you would need to buy a card. there are many stores in the city that sell many brands of calling cards and sometimes they have them taped on the window. my mom buys them whenever i need cuz she gets like 10% off or something so i dont know exactly where but i do know its in markham.
ive seen various convenience stores in the gta that sell them.

no kidding
cards are so last century
you can buy minutes via Skype with your credit card, and dial right from your pc, given you have a microphone

Skype is awesome but I always feel like a 21st Century robot talking to a monitor for extended periods of time

To make longer calls, I usually go with a phone card called "Top"
You can get it at any convenience store

$20 = 5000 mins within Canada
1200 mins to various parts of Europe

... yes I like to keep strong contact lol

So, I'm guessing to Australia you would have a solid 800 mins ?

skype is setup so you can use your computer to make calls to landlines.

i use it for all my long distance in canada and usa.

I have used this site several times for cards to call the Netherlands. On average it is usually about 2 cents a min for about 6 hours of talk time per card for 20$ CDN to a landline.. calls to cell phones are WAY more.

I like http://www.g3telecom.com/

However, if I remember correctly it takes a while (a few days?) to set up. This is a must-have for those who don't have a landline, and don't want to get raped in the undesired orifice by Bell/Rogers/Telus/etc.

Basically they let you set up 3 numbers, from which you can call to their automated call centre. From that point on, you don't need a pin, you just dial your long distance number. So in a way, it's like a long-distance phone card, except
a) you don't need a pin
b) the balance keeps getting rolled over and never expires
c) the balance can auto-refill every time you reach your limit (ie $5 or lower)

Oh and they also send you the plastic card with PIN that you can use from any payphone.. not that I've ever done that.

yeh, but because it relies on voip if the internet line is flaky (which my rogers is at times) then it's not great for conversation.

I will say that I have used skype to talk to another skype user (in Sydney) and it was pretty sweet on that occasion. The first time we tried to chat rogers cable was dropping every 5 seconds so we had to try again a few days later when the line was stable.

I ended up using ontariophonecards.ca to make the calls. Worked fine, took a day to get my pin so I could actually dial, then it was good from there. If only the people who I was calling were available to pick up the phone! It'd be good if they would put the rates for calling cell phones on their site too.

I used to buy $10 cards and speak to family + friends in Oz for hours.
Don't buzz from your cell though, it will eat your credit in seconds....whether you're on pre-paid or on a plan......That's one thing that used to do my head in when I was there.

I assume you were calling landlines too right? Coz buzzing to cell phones can also eat up credit quick.

I was calling on my landline.
