Indeed. I just think this guy, while he has some valid points, fails. If he presented them better with arguments that were in fact difficult to refute, and not just "because thats completely absurd" etc, he might be a weapon.

true, but im more infatuated with the general gist and humour of it all, rather than any inherent "correctness" of his position(s).

i still don't get the point of atheism. so you go around saying god isn't real, hoping that you're right, and if you are..all you get is death.

but if you're wrong? and there is life after death, you go to hell.

Pretty risky if you ask me.

that's assuming it is a "choice" to be an atheist. i couldn't pretend to believe in god any more than i could pretend to enjoy drum and bass.

and i think the notion that jehovah would send me to hell for my lack of belief to be so incredibly ridiculous that it doesn't even warrant discussion

Posted by wizniz on Dec-27-2007 04:55:

atheism is necessary for balance.

how open-minded would a world full of believers be?
besides... as we already know, shit gets out of hand all the time.

it's a perfectly warrented argument.

it says clear as day in the bible.

are you having me on or are you serious?

anyway, if you actually are serious, it also says that only 144,000 people will go to "heaven", so given how many souls have existed since the birth of the first monkey with a soul (ive always wondered when that was btw) that i doubt they'd have room for me anyway.

the type of people that believe in things like hell, are the only ones that could ever conceive of an almighty power (powerful enough to create the entire universe!) that would also possess such selfish jealousy to commit non believers to eternal torment. non-believers that he could have at his side in an instant if he ever bothered to give them ANY kind of evidence whatsoever

just ridiculous.

Which hell?

Posted by BTG on Dec-27-2007 05:18:

yes i am being serious.

look, i'm not trying to get all god on you in this thread. i'm just letting you know what the bible says.

i dont know where you're getting the obscure number of 144,000 from...but i've never read that in the bible.

i'm not an overly religious person, i've had my doubts, but there's just too many strange things that happen in the world and to me to just write off god like that.

that's what the jehovah's witnesses believe, and they are a very literal faith. basically, when it comes down to it, i can take any christian religion's teachings as law because there is nothing to distinguish any of the faiths, ie none of them is any more wrong/right than any other

but i assure you, the 144K number would be in there somewhere, even if it requires some "interpretation", the witnesses take everything they believe from the good book and only the good book.
