The best way to avoid having it is to not get it.

How did you find that out? Rub yourself with it and wait for the result?

Back in the days i would go and walk in the woods with a friend. He would always get it and i would not. He then pointed out what the plant was he was allergic to, i rubbed it on my arm to see if it would itch... nothing happened.

Interesting. You're lucky. I haven't got it since I was a kid, and I'm glad.

BTW is poison oak and poison ivy the same thing?

Bite or Headbutt.

Posted by Saint John on Dec-28-2007 04:59:

so I went to go and play tennis today, and all the sweat from my forehead dripped down, making the poison oak on my eye drop down to the rest of my face, so i went to the doctore and now whenever i do anything physical or where i could sweat, i have to put a strip of athletic tape under my eye, and that includes DJing. I feel like a Bad ass with it on =P

Does this stuff re-occur, or do you need to come in contact with ivy/oak to get it again?

in contact, but once u have it, every time u scratch or irritate it the oils are released making the rash grow bigger and worse, and it gets on ur finger nails so anything u touch gets it too.

Posted by Fledz on Dec-28-2007 05:59:

So it's a contagious rash but once it's gone you need to come into contact again to get it?

Ouch. Sounds very annoying.

I had "poison ivy" for a few days... until I started wailing in pain, and went to a doctor and found out it was Shingles.

Good times.

it is contagious yes but it is NOT recurring. once its gone its gone. he obviously still had oils on something that he came in contact with. it doesnt wash out easily. so its best to wash the clothes you were in, in hot water twice before wearing again.
