What's your favorite way to do a buildup?

Hi I was just wondering some good techniques u guys use to do a proper buildup or lead in to a breakdown. i know its subjective... but what do you guys prefer or usually use

Reverb? Snare/drum rolls? White Noise?
Ive been trying to experiment but idk my lead in's into a breakdown are really iffy

Next thing I do will include a break down that sounds like a trainwreck.

i like doing long drum rolls w/a 909 snare. works great for both building up, and breaking down. i start w/8th notes for 8-16 bars, then 16th note for about the same amount of time, then just keep ramping it up w/32nd's, and wrap it up w/double time 64th notes.

kills the crowed every time!

no, i'm not a hard-house producer...

j/k.

usually i go into VEH1/FX/Reverses/ and find a woosh. then i go into VEH1/FX/Hallkicks/ and find a boom boom. then i filter out the instruments and drop the drums. then i put the woosh in, shortly followed by the boom boom.

If i cant get a good breakdown i make a song without breakdowns...I never have made a good breakdown.

filter sweeps, filtering things in and out, and playing around with lfos that modulate filters.

I guess my answer is playing around with filters.

ring modulation

and triplets right before the takeoff

I uually drop the kick for 4 or 8 measures, while the bass and other synths filter out. Then finally a swoosh and boom.

I was expecting you to get the same. LOL But anyways this is great information because the breakdown and sound design have been the toughest parts of production lately.
