Review : This is Magic NYE@ The Guvernment Complex feat. Sander Kleinenberg and more
I didnt see anyone else throwing this up so I thought I would give it a shot.
Arrived very early...around 9:30. They didnt open up the Guvernment until about 11pm. Got into the Guvernment and pretty much waiting for Sander to hit the stage...
I think Sander killed it up there. Alot people on the board said it wouldnt be anything special but I totally disagree...it was madness he played some great tunes. I did check out every room throughout the night but always ended up making my way back to Sander because I just couldnt get my mind off of the beats he was playing in there.Way too many sketch bags though, I think I saw 3 people pass out from total e-tardation. Oh and some asian dude was trying to fight me out of the blue for NO REASON whatsoever and his GF was trying to push him back...but on the same token I met alot of great people just having a good time. Ive been to the Guv for many special events and I was suprised that they werent frisking anyone on the way into the koolhaus. I couldve brought in a fucking shotgun if I wanted too. All in all a great night...left at around 6:15 am because my legs were going to give out from hours of complete madness.

sounds like a normal fun time at the guv
how long did sander play for..?

i had a fantastic time. that wraps up another awesome year at the guv.
I agree. In general, for me anyway, there was a really positive vibe at guv last night. Sander played 3-6 I believe, and his set was loads of fun. I heard a couple tracks twice last night, once my MO and again by SK: Deadmau5's remix of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and Dave Spoon's At Night (although it may have been 2 different mixes). He also dropped Phantom part 2 by Justice. There was also an AC/DC and a Killers song. Overall Sander K's set was very upbeat, and I had no real inclination to leave the room until close to the end. I also don't remember hearing This is Miami, which doesn't really bother me.
The place was PACKED till about 3, but it got much better after that. There was the usual sketch factor, though once you got over that it seemed like a lot of the people were just there to have a good time. I met a lot of first-timers at Guv, which was fairly refreshing, as well as a bunch of familiar faces from past parties.
I also couldn't help but notice that they installed a bunch of new lasers inside Guv. I'm really hoping it wasn't temporary, as the laser light show was hella cool. There was a really good one in the front and centre, with lots of colours and effects, and they really used it a lot. I'm not sure if the ones in the back corners were actual lasers or just reflecting the front ones, but they added to the effect. It's also possible that those two have always been there, and I just hadn't noticed. Either way the lasers were very impressive, and frequently used.
Overall, it was a great night. Met a lot of cool people, danced my ass off, and started 2008 on the right track. I'm super sore and braindead right now, but definitely do not regret going to Guv for New Years.
Anyone have pics?

Maybe its my taste of music, but in all honesty I felt Sander sucked big fucking balls.
Cheesy tunes, major boring music, every time I walked through main room from where the real party was (orange room, Gallery) everyone looked like zombies, hardly moving, mild energy.......over all BLAH.
Thats not to say I didnt have fun. I rarely do in the main room at guv anyways.

k better review time. prepartied at a hotel and then left to guv around 1015. went to the booth line where i ran into sean kane to get our tickets and stuff for table. we go up to our area and feel it out. the booths in the deluxee lounge were well spaced, quite glad i choose deluxe. not all of our group showed up at the same time so i was sorting out entry and info etc. finally everyone showeed up and we get into party mode. many drinks later, i head over to the drink where joee is dropping a great set. def was a nice warm up for me. spent maybe an hr in there.
then decided to go down to the gallery... wow... it was bumping in there. the vibe was pretty solid except for the random sketchies trying to dance with my girls and me having to get rid of them. felt i was gonna get in a fight a few times. but def stayed there with much of my london crew and rocked it on the right hand side for a few hrs. then decided to check out orange room where dekoze dropped a pretty rocking set. def given'r there but was starting to get tired. got kicked out of orange room and checked out the main room. i hardly saw any of sanders set. he played some good tracks but nothing special compared to orange and gallery. MO came on very soon and played a pretty good closer. not as hard as i thought he would, but still great. left around 8.. cuz my ride wanted to stay that long. lol oh well.
all in all, a great new years party. one of my better times there for a while.

edit: why was the dress code black lol
Chung i know what u mean about the sketchies going for your girls. I bought a girl with me and i had to ward off or hold onto her before they tried humping up and it caused a bit of commotion and that sucks. oh yah, and a posse of brown guys tried going into my pocket for my wallet, twats. There were some other things that happened among the more-than-usual sketchiness that could have ruined my night but i was like fuck it and I had a really fun time. I was really only going for Oliver and Sydney, too bad she was somewhere hot and sunny grr. Oliver killed it, dropped disco demons which always sets the crowd right off! maybe i was just in another world but i wasnt that wowed by Kleinberg, maybe just not my style who knows. There was a blonde haired dude spinning in the orange room, excuse my ignorance for not knowing who he was but he did a wicked job!! ps what happened to Dekoz's set?? i was getting into it and then the music flatlined
all in all i had a very fun night. thanks to all the dj's, guv crew, all the people there for a good time, and of course jay for being jay (happy belated b day btw). that was the first time i have been there from the very beginning to the very end. now i sleep.
That was my first time out at a club on New Years and we were lucky enough to have a booth (which is a brilliant idea and definitely worth the investment for New Years as you have a little safe spot and booze to enjoy with fruit, I liked the party favours they added as well! (non-chemical kind you sketchballs) and overall it was a reaaallllllllly fun guvvy experience! I was with friends I hadn't seen in years and we were bouncing around like kids in a candy store. Never felt bad vibes from people except for a few creepsters in the orange room (I guess the music change doesn't get rid of the gangster twats that easily).
Barato did a fantastic job opening up....then I ended back up in there for Deko-Ze who was wicked but I've spoiled my appetite for him after seeing so much of him lately so I took that time to enjoy Sander K who I'd never seen before.
Not my normal sounds of music at all but he really delivered a fun, festive set perfect for New Years that really got the crowd in celebration mode....it's a shame he came on so late.
If I have to hear Deadmau5's remix of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger one more time I'm going to puke.

I was lucky enough to hear Fatboy Slim - Star 69 a total of three times that night. Twice in Gallery and again in the main room. Awesome.
we pre partied at the hotel then left to guv around 10:10ish or so. got there was kinda bummed about waiting till they open guv so was forced into listening to some hip hop for a bit in the KH. eventually they opened the flood gates lol.
saw some of my good Polish London crew that I had no idea was going so it was a nice surprise early on in the night. eventually went to Justin + friends vip booth and enjoyed that. lots of funny things happening around that area.
checked out the music in the other rooms for a big portion of the night as the beats inside the guv were a bit "boring" for me.
eventually Sander went on and he played some ok tunes, but generally his set was nothing spectacular to me. did enjoy him playing wippenberg remix of cosmic gate - should have known.
i got tired around 4:30ish and was leaving. let me tell u ppl in the guv were soooooooooo pushy I was honestly getting upset at that stupid bitch pushing me on the back. I just wanted to turn around and bitch slap her and be like can't u see I can't move faster as there's ppl in front of me.
went back to the hotel. when the rest of the crew showed up around 8am the drinking started up heavy again. oh dear. the weather was kinda shitty to drive in saw a car upside down, another on its side, lots of towing trucks, but then it cleared up and was good again.
highlights of the night:
The new laser machine was just fucking SICK!!!!!! oh man i loved that thing. it looked super nice from the delux lounge
Asian girl giving herself a light show and when I was passing by to hit the washroom I said to her you must be having a good night and she didn't even move, blink nothing
messed up guy falling over onto the ground in the vip booth. was kinda funny he was struggling getting up
