[Review] NYE 2008 Afterhours @ Love

Sorry for the late review team, I went to sleep yesterday at noon, and didn't get up until this morning for work.

So I was able to get out of work and go to this, yay! Went to 2 other parties first, one at a friend's house and one at Kala's (KayKay) house. So in hindsight... I was drinking for close to 14 hours. Good times Took a 2:30 train into the city and got to Love a little before 4. They graciously offered me the opportunity to pay $50 to go in then, but I declined.

Got inside and Tae was playing in the front room. Tae, you were right, you did play some crazy shit I loved it! Not sure who was playing in the back room, but they were excellent as well. The only bad news bears thing about the evening was that they wouldn't give us open bar when we got there. I have no issue with the staff themselves, I'm sure they were following instructions from someone up above. But I was told straight to my face, while holding a flyer that says "OPEN WELL BAR 4AM - 5 AM!!!", that it was a misprint. Now how do you misprint that on a billion flyers that were handed out all over the city? FTW They finally did open beer bar for like a half hour until 5:30, but it was still effed up that they didn't do it right in the first place.

Other than that, everything was perfect! I was hard pressed for the rest of the evening to choose between the front and back rooms. Again I wish I was better with the track ids, but they were playing some really good stuff in the back. I wandered into the front for a bit and someone was playing Pryda - Muranyi. Love that song! After a while Zack and some other guy were switching back and forth in the front and it was awesome!

Oh yea, and every guido from all of Jersey hit on me and bought me drinks. It was hilarious/slightly scary

Lovely seeing Zack 'n Keryn, Tae, Jay 'n Mere, Drew, Matt, Chris, and Frances.

omg nice pics erica a little blurry but nice... had great time to there some guidos screaming hwen i was trying to string and they where fucking me up and i was fucked up enough to do different combinations but next time ima bring some photons and some high intensity glow sticks ahhh that goona be fun

yeah sorry about the open bar thing. I had 5 people come up to me in like a 1 minute time span to tell me the bar tenders weren't giving out free drinks. They realized the only thing that would be doable was free Bud Selects, which they gave out all night until they ran out. Sorry about that though guys, that was the first time we had a party @ Love that had an open bar, and obviously there were some communication mishaps. They will most definitely be taken care of for any future parties that have any kind of open bar. Again, our apologies.

that being said, it was a fun night. Great seeing a lot of familiar faces out and about on one of the biggest party nights of the year. Happy new year. Looking forward to a big 2008.

All for nothing but don't you think Love is a little too small of a place to be winging glow sticks around on a fucking string? What nerve you have to take up so much space......like you're God's gift to raving and you can do whatever the fuck you wanna do in the club. Hate to be so harsh but this shit is just played out not to mention dangerous!......learn how to dance for real and save the strings for the warehouse raves. That being said.....I hate to be the next kid that hits me with one of these things......the first one almost didn't make it out alive!

ok what ever man but i shorten the string so it doesnt hit people and i only string when i feel the music and i evey body is lucky that i didnt pull out the extra long hockey skate laces but u dont have the right to give me shit about what im into

Sorry bro but I am gonna have to agree with vtec. Its not about him hating on what you are into, its the fact that you are in a tiny ass place like love with strings. strings are really not cool in just about ANY venue (look at how miserable the people were at tyas because of people whipping those shits around!!)

<----I have no problem, personally, with people who use glowsticks without strings when there is SPACE. But people who use stings think that just because the place is half empty that they wont hit anyone, and then get mad when people walking/dancing "mess up their flow." that is such bullshit...you are trying to tell me that I need to duck and dodge you everytime I go in your direction, get whapped in the head, and YOU are pissed. I would tell the guy who acted in this manner to fuck off, personally

(this is not directed at you but you get the point: no one cares if you wanna string but you need to be rational about the time and place that you are doing it).

you do realize that that fucking "circle" took up more then half to dance floor and pissed off a lot of people.

oh and hitokiri know's what PLUR is, fuck he was saying that shit before you even knew what EDM was.

I usually keep my mouth shut about the glow sticks, but have to say something this time. Take a lesson from Hitokiri, kid's been doing lights longer then any of you have been around and he respects everyone around him and has never had a problem with someone in the club. Its people like you that make the club world not like and repsect "stickers" and/or "glow stringers"

Thats JUST my point. At Sean Tyas, we were in a small venue and your so-called circle took up at LEAST 1/3-1/2 of the floor. So the rest of us were SARDINES in the other half of the club so you could "swing your sticks."

Tell me if this makes sense to you: hundreds of people squished with NO room to dance so that ONE OR TWO people can take turns dancing in a circle. So you are telling me that 99% of the patrons there had to be pissed off because of this damn circle? That is exactly what I am talking about when I say "there is a time and place." There is no way in hell there should have been a glowstick circle that night: there was a packed club and it was at small venue.

And on top of that, I had to FIGHT my way to the stairs, I got my drink spilled on me because some dude had to DUCK someone's strings, I had to duck myself when someone acceidentally threw their glowstick AND I was having a horrible time dancing because I kept tripping on the discarded one's that people just tossed on the floor when they were done. This, all on top of the fact that I really wanted to bust out dancing, but there was NO ROOM because your circle took up half the club!!! Its sad that a LOT of people I know had their night be affected so negatively because of our comfort level in that place.

^^Maybe you should keep stuff like this in mind. just because YOU are having fun doing "combinations" doesnt mean that you shouldnt take other people into consideration, because we are all there to have fun, but sometimes other peopls actions affect the fun that we expected.

First of all I already said "I hate being so harsh" so stop your fucking crying. Second of all you even said so yourself "guidos started yelling at me" hummmm I wonder why......maybe because you were in their way. I'm not here to knock on anything you do....to each their own so do whatever makes you happy......but when you're affecting other people in the club it becomes a problem. I don't care if the room is full or half empty....people have to walk around you because they don't feel like getting clocked in the head with a glow stick.....that's horse shit. Like yankeebaby said.....there is a time and place for certain things and the club is not one of them for strings.

Silly me,,I didn't realise there was a specially designated circle "just for string" at Tyas..That explains it..

Anyway,,words can't describe how pissed off I am about missing this so I'm just gonna hate on glowstick dudes..

i wouldnt do it at a small place but even if i did i usually watch my surroundings before i do it; when you go to clubs in general though in the city you should expect those at edm events or seeing people getting into dance battles thats how it is and if you dont like it tough luck! you should stay home...

im gonna defend hardcoreravers opinion on this ; ok fine sure when its packed you should watch it and make your strings smaller so you dont hit people but man if ur at a club to just stand;sleep and bitch about people doin there own thing then dont come! clubs have always been about the vibe people brought thats simply part of the club culture get used to it...

i am all about expressing yourself and whatnot but not at the expense of pissing everyone else around you off by one person taking up enough space for six. use glowsticks, photon lights, whatever but in a small area whipping those things around is not kosher in my book
