Moving soon - internet, TV questions
Hey TOTAs,
Hopefully I will be moving this Feb to a new place in King West, so I need your help.
I'm looking at ordering an internet service. So far, these guys: http://acanac.ca/chart.htm look the best. I know the price is only for 1 year, but I can certainly switch later on. I used this site in the past http://www.canadianisp.com/ to pick an ISP. It doesn't look like any other ISP can match this price. My question is - do you guys know of a reliable fast ISP (5M down/800k Up) that is even in the vicinity of $35-$40 price. (I will need a dry dsl service, since I don't have a phone line).
I will also be needing TV service. I have an LCD TV with 1080p res, so I will need hi-def (perhaps not for sports, but for movies and such). I'm debating ordering rogers (super-expensive), vs... "ordering" satellite from the Pacific Mall or something
Does anyone know what's the situation with "having" satellite? I know lately they have been sneaky with flushing the boxes, so you need a new code quite frequently... can anyone comment?
Thank you very much
drive by the place with a laptop to see how secure the neighbors connections are first.
when it comes to satellite, stay away from free-to-air. bell and dishnetwork are really fucking shit up with those receivers because they cannot handle map calls.
the best way to get hacked high definition satellite is to find someone that can hack a bell 6100 receiver with internal nagra2 rom102 (aka. dishnetwork 811 reciever). fixes for rom102 almost always come out first. i might get one for myself in the spring/summer.

I am on Acanac, and they rock! The speeds are great, and no throttling. Plus 100GB free online storage, and an online computer, can't go wrong.
As for TV, I just use antenna and grab free HD over the air.

Thank you guys. Looks like I'll go with Acanac, and the receiver Jason suggested
See you all on the 26!

I'm getting 5 HD channels for free with my antenna.
