Posted by TSG on Jan-05-2008 22:21:

I haven't been to Mexicali since I was a cute little brat. We'd catch a 3 day train ride to Guadalajara, Mexico.

From LA it's 198 miles, from TJ it's 118.

It takes me 2 1/2 Hours to get from Santa Ana to Mexicali. Mexicali is the border city with Calexico, CA and it also borders Arizona. Once you cross the fence you're in Mexicali. However, I never been to this venue so I have no clue how it is or where it is. I was born in Mexicali and go there all the time.

Because this will be in the winter time, expect FREEZING COLD Temperatures!!!! It's way colder than it is here.

Posted by TSG on Jan-05-2008 22:34:

Aye caramba! I've got all my warm clothes ready! Bien calientita. Or we can all keep each other warm!

Mexicali is nothing like TJ!!! Mexicali is way more americanized. It's just like being here and a lot of people there speak english.

Posted by dajacobo on Jan-06-2008 02:43:

haha no its not the people.
i just don't like driving into mexico.

No! I don't know of any parking lots on this side of the border. I was born and raised in Mexicali. I love that place, out of all the cities I played at, I gotta admit, my first time playing back in my hometown was unreal. The people were really friendly and very welcoming.

I'm really looking forward to this date. One thing though, I'm not too sure about the venue. I asked around and people are telling it seems like a rental hall. I know for a fact that it's not in the strip. Yes, Mexicali has a strip full of nightclubs just like TJ does.

FYI. Legal drinking age is 18. But beware, Mexicali is STRICT on cracking down on drunk drivers. There's check points all over the city. They don't fuck around when it comes to that. They're also strict on drugs. If a cop catches you on something, you're pretty much fucked. The last place you want to end up is in a Mexican jail.

On the brightside, once you're there get some TACOS AND CHINESE FOOD!!!! Mexicali is HUGE for it's Tacos & Chinese Food. It's way different than here. You can get Tacos pretty much for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. I know of a few spots that sell the BOMB Tacos!!! Let me just put it to you this way, on one of my spots, they give you a whole AVACADO!!! They make the tortillas and they also give you a whole carne asada stake!!! It's so yummy!!! But there's tons of people at that place and they only sell their tacos in the morning. Once they run out, that's it, you're assed out!

Oh, one more thing. Anywhere you go they accept dollars so you don't have to worry about changing your dollars into pesos.

Posted by CrazedOut on Jan-07-2008 05:16:

Where to buy presales?? Do you know what price it'll be at the door?

Is the event all ages or 18+ ?

Posted by shuni on Jan-07-2008 06:56:

Presale $20dlls @ Toognino's Pizza places (tijuana & mexicali)
$30 at the door
all ages

Posted by CrazedOut on Jan-07-2008 08:31:

Darn, 30 bucks it is.

Have a few questions if ya don't mind.

1. How is it gonna be for 4-5 18year olds who haven't been to Mexico other than TJ, to find this place without getting lost?

2. Is it safe for us to go? One of us being a hot blonde.

3. Any good places to stay near by? Don't really want to have to drive back to the US side of the border to sleep.

4. How big of a problem is it if someone in the group decides to drop, do cops have the right to grab them if they suspect they are on something?

Thank You!

As someone already said, you do not need a passport when travelling to Canada or Mexico by land just yet. It was supposed to start January 1, 2008, but the deadline was pushed back.

The goal is for summer 2008 and a 60 day notice will be given by the government. Believe that's what I've read. But many still doubt the change will be made before summer 2008.

At the latest, the change will take effect by June 1, 2009. This is the absolute final date required by Congress for Homeland Security to get their act together and get it implemented.

If you can save up a little money, just get your passport and get it over with. It's not that difficult of a process.

i'm assuming the other 3-4 are not hot blonds
everyone always makes a big fuss about going to another country.
i look at it this way.
it is going to be as safe as you make it.
just always remember you are in another country you should have caution.
