The war is over!
Thoughts?
Time to pick up some cheap HD DVDs!
I hope people freak out and start selling their shit so I can take advantage of it!
It ain't over till Universal concedes, but its going to be really really difficult now for HD DVD to survive.
I've supported both formats for while now and will continue to support both until only one format is available.
My HD DVD player is the 360 Add-on so it will always be in my main viewing room so I am not to concearned if the format fails as I will always have this add-on to play HD movies!
Receives a big meh from me.
at $40/title they can keep both formats.

why does this mean the format war is "over"? (I'm honestly asking, since I'm not super current on this topic)
Doesn't this just mean that Warner, who currently supports both formats, is now going Blu-Ray as of this summer?
Aren't there still other major players on the HD-DVD side, like Universal, Paramount, Dreamworks, etc?
^^^
Exactly!!! to be honest it seems like this war is not going to end any time soon and non of the players in the game will ever admit that they lost the fight(when they actually do).
And my HDDVD player is still in the mail with a shitload of movies... but i honnestly think that if Blu wins, the consumers will be the big losers.
Sony is reknown for having bad commercial practices, closed architecture, and just being overpriced.
i'll support blu-ray and only blu-ray cause of the ps3, which i'll pick 1 up later in the year when the price drops $499.99 is still way to expensive for my blood.....not to mention the blu-ray discs do hold more then a hddvd.....i also have a giant dvd collection and im not in a hurry to buy new blu-ray movies for $35.99 and i wont rebuy my dvds on another platform(unless its Scarface or DieHard).......

| Blu-Ray Says No Way to Porn; HD-DVD Becomes Sloppy Seconds Written by Kaonashi Published January 13, 2007 In what appears to be a repeat of the VHS vs. Betamax story, Sony may have lost the format wars once again. Adult studio Digital Playground has switched allegiances, confirming that from now on, they'll be publishing their movies in HD-DVD format. According to There Joone, Digital Playground's founder, and adult movie director, last year he had an agreement with Sony to start publishing his movies on Blu-Ray. However, the tech giant seemed to have a change of heart. The U.S. Blu-Ray Disc copying facilities refused to work with him. In fact, according to Joone, the companies explained that Sony had threatened to revoke their Blu-Ray licenses should they publish adult content in Blu-Ray format. Playstation 3 and other Blu-ray player owners will now suffer at not being able to watch women suckling each other's exposed, artificial mammaries in vivid 1080p resolution on a 50-inch screen. Meanwhile, lucky HD-DVD player owners (including those with the add-on for XBOX 360) rejoice as Digital Playground announces the release of a slew of movies for February. Yep, next month they'll be able to get their hands on Island Fever 3, Pirates, Teen America and Island Fever 4. And that's not all. The company plans to release at least 4 HD-DVD titles per month. Mark your calendars, boys. Fill out those online pre-order forms. You have a fun year ahead of you! I expected that the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray format war will be won with what's in people's pants, but I was thinking wallets, not their loins. To be honest though, I don't know if the porn industry will have as big an impact in the format wars this time around. Sure, it may have been one of the deciding factors that helped push the video industry away from Betamax and towards VHS in the early 80s, but that was then and this is now. After all, we now have this little thing called "The Internet" that allows guys to get any type of pornographic material any time, anywhere- sometimes even for free! Go figure. If he has a big enough, clear computer monitor and some good speakers, I don't see why a guy would even need a DVD player, let alone anything next-gen. |

| Originally posted by Invasionmix Apparently Time Warner Brothers own about 70% of the distribution, so if they pick Blu-Ray it's basically the decision, they supported both formats for a while, but had till the end of the month to make a decision. Also according to the older format wars, which ever the porn industry supported usually becomes the main format. |
just get a drive for your comp
DVD R/BluRay+HD DVD ... then you can run all formats.
i guess im gonna have to wait longer to decide what to buy. i will most likely end up buying blu-ray since thats probably what most regular (non-porn) movies will be released as. porn in standard definition is fine for me. i dont want high def porn so i can see the herpes outbreak in vivid 1080p.
