is reason worth buying?
i would like to know who bought reason. is it worth its $400 price tag? i got the demo, but its just not enough! im a beginner at producing and would like to explore more. is buying the full mode a easier way to explore producing without buying hardware? if so should i wait for reason 2.0 to be released? anyone know the official release date?
my apologies for the retarded questions.
One word: "yes".
Especially if you have tried out the demo and know the basics of it.
I'd wait for Reason 2 release, it should be out this summer.
I'd check out fruity loops, it's better...

| Originally posted by Michael Russo My intent wasn't to start another flamewar... For the sake of it, let's see why fruity is a better buy. There's tons of reasons, but I'm not going to get into them all. And yes, reason does have its strong points, but fruity is a much better choice. The biggest problem with reason is that there is no vst support, and you only get the subtractor... it's not the greatest synth. Yes, you can use vst's with reason but that involves buying several things: you have to buy cubase, you have to buy reason, and then you have to buy the vst's you want to use. Or, you can use fruity as your main sequencer, and then just buy vst plugins to use with it. Since fruity is only $100 with free lifetime upgrades, you can get fruity and a good NI synth for the same price as reason alone... |

You may have pretty valid points (although I prefer Reason, just because I can work my way around the restrictions) but they don't have anything to do with the thread itself ![]() |
Of course its not worth buying. For that sorta money no software is.
Just download it for free.
alt.binaries.sounds.utilities will sort u out no probs.
Ur better on a broadband tho its 530MB.
Fruity is better than reason. The sequencing in reason is just so unbelieveably awkward. The redrum and matrix r pretty awkward too.
Fruity is powerful yet very very simple.
omg yes, get reason 2
It's a wonderful world!
This is what makes the world such an interesting place to live; one person can like Reason and another can like Fruity Loops without forcing their opinion on the other. Use whatever is appealing to you!!! The same thing with another thread dealing with headphone preferences - who cares? Use whatever you are comfortable with.
TranceDance, I agree with U
But everyone should at least try other progs so they could really really know what program is the best for them.
And so it is very veri important that someone is telling something good about Fruity and something bad about Reason and same thing other way round
Yes and No
I've been using Reason for a year and a half now and I have to say it has its advantages and drawbacks...as everybody's already mentioned the VST support is a big drawback...there are much better synths around in VST then the subtractor...but I personally find the editing possibilities in Reason very straightforward and powerful...having said that I'm only now getting into VST synths with cubase and the possibilities with some of them are far beyond simple to replicate in Reason. I'm mainly using Reason to program drums and samples and make basslines...for trancy synths i'm looking elsewhere now...just my two cents though, Reason's been great for learning the ins and outs of synthesizer.
Reason is one of (if not the best) all in one studios...The only program that is close to it is fruity...I like fruity better just because of the vsti & dxi support...
Reason doesn't have vsta or dxi support?
no, because that would defy the self-contained, all in one concept. If you NEED vst's and reason, rewire it with cubase
