sasha interview

http://www.judgejules.net/index.php?page=4146

interesting read.

Good one...except the interviewer repeats himself once or twice.

Love how Sasha blatantly side-stepped the "drugs" issue.

As for calling minimal a big wank - I think that's pretty rich after his recent releases.

Something relevant to those recently realizing that Sasha isn't the only figure involved in his productions:

quote:
Thats really the reason why I decided to attach this name to the new production, I mean; Ive always been very honest with people about my role in the studio. Ive never said I do this stuff on my own, Ive always relied on a team of people around me, he says.

You're not calling his recent release(s) Minimal, are you?

Hell no! I'm calling them wanky.

Posted by Meat187 on Jan-09-2008 12:28:

I'm calling them terrible.

LOL at him not being able to drive.

Sick interview

Yeah, pretty weird. I didn't know that info.

He says that he's releasing the stuff under the Coma name, but that isn't true. It's still Sasha - Coma/Park It In The Shade/Who Killed Sparky, it's just the production credit that goes to Coma.

This has always bothered me as well. What's the point?

yeah kind of lame imo.

Also about the minimal comment, he later says

"I know its too self indulgent for me to say that, it happens in all genres I obviously had a bee in my bonnet that day."

Posted by mphreak on Jan-09-2008 18:44:

Well, the track is probably better sold when labeled as Sasha .

Posted by bas on Jan-09-2008 18:45:

"The thing about vinyl is that as you see it in a record shop you know that it has been passed on from hand to hand and therefore it must be a loved piece of music. Instead you get bombarded with mp3 and websites that you feel theres no quality control there.

Amen to that

mphreak, selling to who? The DJ's that already know who COMA is? Or the DJ's that already know it's released on emFire which happens to be Sasha's label anyway?

Posted by Clovis on Jan-09-2008 18:51:

Yeah like no shitty vinyl gets pressed...please...

The thing that makes vinyl better is that theres no way you'll consider spending 11.99 or 15$ if the track(s) are even remotely crap. It increases the buyer's quality control. When an mp3 is just 1.49, you're more likely to buy it even if its only "ok"

I think he means it will get more p2p downloads from kids who know fuck all about what labels are.

Yes, kids who recently discovered "Sasha" and the whole scene.

Yeah, the amount is just the same as the amount of shitty mp3s.

Well it must surely cost more to manufacture and distribute vinyl than MP3s, so that's where the quality control will come in.

In the end, if someone thinks its worth pressing, I doubt that makes much a difference. Happy Hardcore gets pressed to wax.

Ah the "vinyl is quality control" argument - you've gotta love it.

I've got a few in my collection that would beg to differ.

My Picotto mix of "Lethal Industry" is perhaps the one I'm most proud of.

The operative word being "worth". The worth of an MP3 release is a lot less than the worth of a vinyl one.

Sasha does have his own label. I'm sure he isn't just pulling shit out of thin air. It makes logical sense that if the cash investment is higher, then labels will only want to release high quality records they think will make them money back. They can afford to take risks or release lower quality material if they don't stand to lose much money.
