Unhappy No fun in Islam?

"There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious."
- Ayatollah Khomeini

Sounds like just the guy to invite to a party.

Hm... come to think of it, in all my time growing up Muslim I can't think of a single joke or wise crack made in or around the Mosque. You at least get a funny anecdote here and there in a Christian church..

Ah well, what can you do *shrugs*

I notice that! Everytime I went to church, some pastors get that one or two moments of laughter out of the congregation.

They're just two different religions that practice differently. To a Christian, god is personable, therefore you can "laugh with Him". Allah on the other hand is impersonal, therefore you can't really relate on a human level, or laugh with Allah...

I would like to see a parody of this phrase made to the Beastie Boys' No Sleep 'til Brooklyn.

What a completely random yet brilliant proposition.

Actually, I think that's common in English-speaking countries. Most lectures I've attended, in which professor was American, had to have a couple of jokes.

"Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious." -- Ayatollah Khomeini

theres the WHOLE quote. hes not saying 'dont have fun', hes saying that was not the original intention for mankinds creation which most of mankind thinks it is, and it also justifys laws of muslim countries.

islam is a serious religion. the quote was probably given to the people to make sure they do not forget about what awaits them if they past the test of life, which is eternity in paradise.<--thats where the funs at. short term pain for a long term gain. pretty simple if you ask me.

if there was no fun or joy, then how would any muslim celebrate eid?? or a wedding?? or the birth of a child??.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Jan-09-2008 23:47:

Not that quoting the whole thing makes the old moralizer look any better.

Posted by Rook on Jan-09-2008 23:53:

it certainly changes the context of it
