Talking Blu-Ray

so i finally bought myself a blu-ray player today. i picked up the Samsung BD-P1400 along with two movies; syriana and layer cake. i cant believe how amazing the picture looks (and my tv is only 720p/1080i).. now i wish i had 1080p. those two movies cost me $87 with taxes.

has anyone else here 'gone purple'? any movie suggestions?

Don't know if it is available on BD, but it looks amazing on HD-DVD: Transformers.

Other things to get:
Blue Planet Documentary (looks ridiculous)

Jesus man $87 for two movies? The HD experience is not worth that in my eyes.

I have yet to watch a movie on my PS3. I'm just waiting to get a nice HDTV LCD tv at the end of the month...

Jesus, I bet!! Wathcing that on a big screen on BluRay would be other-worldly!

Posted by exstasie on Jan-09-2008 19:43:

I got Planet Earth on HD DVD (it's available on both).

That definitely has to be your first purchase!!

It is absolutely amazing!

PS. Transformers is only available on HD DVD. I have it but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

PPS. If you want cheap movies, buy it from Amazon.com (not .ca). You pay for it US $$, You don't have to pay Tax, there are no brokerage/custom fees as its shipped from within the Canada (Mississauga) and they are about 20%-30% cheaper than buying them in Canada.
They also have lots of BOGO sales (buy one get one free). I believe that BD and HD DVD have BOGO sales on right now.

Sure.

It's absolutely amazing.

Season 3 is actually on TV on Canada. It's was like 6 episodes behind when it was aired on TV. But they were on Wednesday on Showcase or Bravo or something like that.

Hope Season 3 comes out on BD soon!

I'm waiting to purchase an HD format player until we see what happens in our new-millenium VHS/Beta showdown.

i saw a graph somewhere online and more than half the market is already blu-ray. if BD goes extinct then i will get an HD-DVD player as well since they are cheaper anyway.
for all the porn lovers out there, digital playground has officially gone blu-ray as well.

pshh..you and you people trying to support the local economy!

But yeah, the price disparity between Canada & US for HD videos has drastically come down this year!

I first adpoted to the HD format last year and it was rediculous how much more movies were here than the US.

Also, try looking at Wal-Mart for stuff. The people that work there aren't the brightest and I've seen many times where they've put the HD movies at the SD DVD price.

I find that their shipping is very inaccurate.

I've boughten stuff that said it would take 3 weeks to ship, and it took 3 weeks to ship.

I've boughten other things that said it would take 3 weeks to ship, and it took 4 business days to ship.

I've pre-ordered movies before (Knocked Up HD DVD to be specific). Movies are released on tuesdays, and it was in my mailbox on the same friday.

Posted by malek on Jan-09-2008 20:23:

These are the titles I am looking for but aren't available yet in HDDVD

Saving Private Ryan
War of the Worlds

Some fucked up HDDVD movie with abstract artwork and video... that would be crazy.

Why do you guys call it going 'red' or 'purple' if they both use blue laser diodes?

Wait, Blue Planet is a 7 part documentary, how did it only come to $19.95? I would cost them more than that just to print the damn things.

T2 for $14 on blu-ray, totally worth it!!!

its a slang... blue (bluray) vs red (hddvd).

each brand have associated with a color in their logos and marketing hype.

More films I want:

Miami Vice
Into the Wild.
Blade Runner (5 discs)
