Posted by j_spot on May-04-2002 09:05:

when I know I wont be spinning for a few weeks yeah

its been 3, nearly 4 weeks since ive mixed

Posted by Tony Morello on May-04-2002 19:23:

that's shitty

we had my party speakers being run by this l;ittle tiny computer speaker ammp, and eventually the strain of running these big speakers was too much and it blew
it smelled like burnt plastic and wires

but the good thing is that i got my original amp fixed that was running the speakers

most likely its the headshell....

try cleaning the connectors/RCA's

Posted by j_spot on May-07-2002 07:03:

I tried changing the headshell..

might it be the connection in the tonearm?

Most probably, this is a common problem with Ortofon Concordes. Get a Q-tip, dab it in some isopropyl alcohol (aka IPA) and wipe it over the connectors on the back of the Ortofons and also on the connectors inside the tonearm. Try to shove the Q-tip in fairly hard, because the connectors in the tonearm are spring mounted - they could have got pushed in and got stuck, so try to force them out if this is the case.

Posted by j_spot on May-07-2002 18:05:

considering I dont have concordes....????

Posted by JohnSmith on May-07-2002 18:11:

congrats about finding your needles man..

just curious, where were they?

also, i am planning on getting some ortofon carts, cuz i hear they are the best for trance. this other guy is trying to sell me on some stantons..

should i go with the stantons, if only because they won't corrode or damage the connectors on my tonearms?

Posted by j_spot on May-07-2002 20:59:

they were in my record case after all
they had fallen between 2 records, and I looked in front, on the sides and in back, but not between! Then I was going to pack up agian, and they wouldnt get close..and VOILA! they they were

Posted by JohnSmith on May-08-2002 02:03:

Sweet. it would really suck to lose those babies.

Posted by DJTJ on May-08-2002 17:07:

Ah, didn't realise you had the OMs. Uh, in that case just make sure the wires from the headshell are connected properly to the pins on the back of the cartridge.

he doesn't have the OMs... its the nightclubs, but not the OM version

and he found his needles exactly where i told him to look

Posted by j_spot on May-09-2002 09:42:

and as it turns out I tried the old lick it then stick it, and it worked

so now off to the drug store for some isopropanol alcohol...cleaning time!

Glad to know it wasn't a problem with the Techs.

I know how it feels, it can be frustrating trying to isolate the problem when you have a million things connected together.
