Question Quality Studio monitors for 1000$

I currently own a pair of Alesis M1MK2 monitors which, in all honesty, are far from ideal. Sure, I've had them for quite some time and pretty much know their sound, but I've done better mixes at a friends house in 30 mins that at home in hours..
So.. I'm planning on getting some new ones soon. Powered ofc.
The thing is, my knowledge is pretty limited when it comes to monitors. The only ones I'm sure would be good are mackie HR824's, and these cost around 3000$ a pair here so i'm skiping that.
So what are the best bang for the buck as far as this price range is concerned?
I'm looking for a good freq response (ofc.. ), preferably an 7-8" woofer, and they should be considerably better that my current ones (which shouldn't be hard to acomplish). Aimed primarily at dance/trance production.
Any help is apreciated.

What!? That's way overpriced.
You should order from www.thomann.de
It's a bit trickier if you're outside of the EU but it works.

I would.. but with shipping costs and taxes it comes down to pretty much the same thing.
A pair is still around 1500$ + shipping and tax it wouldn't go for less than 2000-2500$. And I have maybe half of that so...

No dude, there are really good deals going on the 824's (Mk1) especially second hand now that the mk2's are out. Have a search or ask thoman if they have any B or ex demo stock. On some other speakers, I would not suggest this but the 824's are rock solid so you should be OK.

Yamaha HS80Ms. They cost about $700/pr in the US - don't know what that translates to in Croatia.

Thanks everyone. I guess i'll prolly go for the yamaha's as they should fit in the price range and, afaik, they sound pretty good.
Will look for a pair of hr824's maybe i get lucky and get some used ones cheap(er). Or maybe i get just one for now and work in mono

Don't forget to add a sub, since it's extremely difficult to monitor low frequencies on those Adam's.
