'Mac People' Found to be More Open and Superior Than Population at Large
No hate for the Apple products (great things, indeed) but...

| Is There a 'Mac' Mindset? 'Mac People' Found to be More Open and Superior Than Population at Large, According to Mindset Media Study EW YORK, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Mindset Media (http://www.mindset-media.com), which operates an online ad network that enables brand advertisers to reach millions of people with the personality traits that fit their brands, today released a Mindset Profile(TM) of Mac users, which the company generated from a recent study conducted using Nielsen's Online panel (http://www.nielsen-online.com). ![]() (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080116/NYW072 ) According to Mindset Media, Mac enthusiasts descending on San Francisco in droves this week to see the latest Apple innovations are apt to have a lot in common with the open-minded, liberal population they will find there. The study, with a robust sample of 7,500 respondents, revealed that people who are highly open-minded or, in Mindset Media parlance, "Openness 5's", are 60 percent more likely than people in the general population to have purchased a Mac. These purchasers are also more liberal, less modest, and more assured of their own superiority than the population at large. Mindset Media defines Openness 5's as those who seek rich, varied and novel experiences, believing that imagination and intellectual curiosity contribute to a life well lived. They are receptive to their own inner feelings and may feel both happiness and unhappiness more intensely than others. "In a competitive market, like the one for personal computers, many brands compete for the same demographic, and what separates the winners from the losers is often the ability to identify and reach the right psychographic," said Sarah Welch, COO and co-founder of Mindset Media. "For the first time, marketers with brands that have distinctive Mindset Profiles, like Apple, can directly reach the people with the personality and attitudes that love what they sell." Definitely have more superiority complexes
I guess that makes me President of MENSA for going with iRiver
Feeling superior does not make a person superior. IMO, their description of superiority is actually a decent description of a tool or asshole. I suppose it's simply an extension of their Low Modesty claim
I like macs. They are quality machines and can help you create and make cool things. But in the end, its just a tool. If you really feel like you're a better person because of a brand, I feel bad for you
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not more l33t than you, but for what I use it for, my computer is more l33t than your computer.
That's it. ![]()

Correct.
However for games, DO NOT GET A MAC. YOU ARE RETARDED IF YOU THINK YOU ARE L33T @ GAMES AND GET A MAC.
Okay I'm done.
for some reason, reading that article reminded me of this one...

| Creative Types Have More Sex Partners By Robert Roy Britt, LiveScience Managing Editor posted: 29 November 2005 07:02 pm ET Talk about creativity. Professional artists and poets hook up with two or three times as many sex partners as other people, new research indicates. A study of 425 British men and women found the creative types averaged between four and ten partners, while the less creative folks had typically had three. The more creative the study participants, the more partners they'd had. Previous studies have hinted at all this, and anyone mingling seriously with artists might have suspected as much. But this is the first study to provide firm evidence, the researchers say. What's behind the results? It could be that "very creative types lead a bohemian lifestyle and tend to act on more sexual impulses and opportunities, often purely for experience's sake, than the average person would," said study leader Daniel Nettle, a psychologist at Newcastle University. "Moreover, it's common to find that this sexual behavior is tolerated in creative people," Nettle notes. "Partners, even long-term ones, are less likely to expect loyalty and fidelity from them." There may be an evolutionary reason, however. The study also included some known schizophrenics. And Nettle's personality surveys revealed that the artists and poets shared certain traits with schizophrenics. Again, perhaps no big surprise. But these traits are linked with increased sexual activity, Nettle and his colleagues say (though full-blown schizophrenic patients tend to withdraw from society and have less active sex lives). Insofar as evolution is concerned, maybe teetering on the brink is a good thing, the researchers speculate. "These personality traits can manifest themselves in negative ways, in that a person with them is likely to be prone to the shadows of full-blown mental illness such as depression and suicidal thoughts," Nettle said. "This research shows there are positive reasons, such as their role in mate attraction and species survival, for why these characteristics are still around." |

| Wait up, hang on here -- you're telling us a personality profiling conducted on 7,500 people at Apple's biggest tub-thumping event of the year, Macworld, yielded results that would suggest Apple users "are more liberal, less modest, and more assured of their own superiority than the population at large." And this so-called survey says Apple users have high indexes for "low modesty," "high perfectionism," and "high superiority"? Lies and half truths. We don't know a single Apple user that fits anything remotely similar to that profile. Plus, we hear this poll totally had some hanging chads. Source: Engadget |

Open minded? Really? I thought one of the prerequisites for joining the cult-of-mac was to proclaim all other computing hardware as fail.
(I use both, and have no problems with either.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I fucking hate the vast majority of Mac users (and fully realize the irony in the fact that I, a mac user, am claiming to be superior to other Mac users
).
No offense, Sam.
