Menno De Jong in VANCOUVER POLL

Ok all you Vancouver TA's lets see just how many of you want to see Menno De Jong come here. As some of you know he's going to be in Calgary Feb.20 and in San Fran Feb.23. That leaves us with Friday Feb.22 as the best night Vancouver could host him. Our mission here is to show TWISTED, CARGO, or any other promotion company in the city that we (the ppl) want to see new faces in the prog/trance scene come here. Armin and Markus are great to see but lets get guys like Jonas Steur, M.I.K.E, Kyau and Albert, Stoneface and Terminal, Ronski Speed, Above and Beyond out here and not at some RAVE!

Would love to see MdJ or anyone from the Intuition label really. Same goes for the guys on the Euphonic label.

Intuition is solid, just like Anjuna.

Wtf is happening to this city?
Marcus Shossow in Calgary and now Meno there as well, and yet nothing here!

Anyway, Yes please MdJ even though I won't be here but you guys will love it.

KarateKid

It's great to see some interest in the Vancouver scene.

I braught Menno to Vancouver 3 or 4 years ago. With the help of some friends, we were also the first promoters to bring Above & Beyond, GTR, Signum, John Askew, Greg Downey, Ronski Speed, Niklas Harding to Canada.

I've been away from Vancouver for over a year now, so not sure how the club scene is doing these days. I'm sure that we can all agree that raves are really hurting, and none of us have any business attenting those type of events anymore. Although I'm sure the main issue remains the same... finding a decent venue that will be able to hold a successful night, to at least cover the cost of the event.

Seems that if the DJ isn't someone like Harmin vanBuuen, or if the event isn't being thrown by a trendy overhyped production name, people just don't come out to support these types of nights. Granted all of the names I mentioned have gotten bigger in recent years, at least before the support was nowhere near what it needed to be. Maybe I'll give it another shot when I get back.

Cheers

Danny

It's honestly be really good to see a resurrection of UNION.
You guys brought Andy Moor a couple times and it was stellar!

Bring Schossow! and before Feb.21 please

Posted by shampoo on Jan-19-2008 00:20:

+1 for Union!

The one at Aqua was one of my favourite gigs.

Posted by 24K on Jan-19-2008 00:22:

^^^ Good call on Andy Moor.. the clubs shows were awesome.

It's going to be pretty hard to arrange anything because I really don't have a clue to whats going on these days as far as venues go... Seems like they're arent very many options though. As for Schossow & Menno... I'm sure their agents have already shopped them around to the usual suspects. Someone might pick him up.

P.S.

Don't qutoe me on this but I think the guys from Union already have something planned for April

Also why isn't Marcel Woods coming here? His two NA dates are Edmonton and Calgary. The only thing that makes me feel better about that is no Toronto date .

But on topic I would love to see Menno come to vancouver.

That was a good show, I asked him to come to Vancouver.

I don't know if it's a lack of crowd support, a lack of viable venues, or the promoters fault, but yes, it seems the only way they bring anyone here who isn't a top top name (corsten, van buuren, tiesto, pvd) is through a rave, and some TAers refuse to go to raves for various reasons, one of them being the crowd that shows up for raves.

Yeah, we miss Union and their ability to not only bring in talent on their own and fill it with decent locals but to actually promote the event as well.

Andy Moor at those two club events was awesome. Never saw him at the rave, never wanted to.

There have been a few djs on my contact list that have expressed an interest in coming here, some even at a reduced rate to get their first shot or a return shot at playing here. Whatever your feelings on today's edm event crowds, they geniunely like coming here. Some of them would actually get some support too. But the promo groups I've tried contacting haven't bothered to respond to the opportunity. I don't pretend to understand the politics or reasoning behind this, or whether they are flat out too busy or just not interested, but it's just another thing to be frustrated over from a fan stand point. (And yes, I realize I am one of the poorest TAs in terms of supporting events, so take my bitching with some grain and salt).

hmm...this thread is pretty cool.

Its both of these reasons, actually. I just had to pass on an offer for a very good artist because of these two factors. If someone here disagrees, then let me know. I don't know how many TAs there are on this board but if there are another 200 I don't know about who want to buy tickets and make this gig feasable then let's have 'em!

Also, somebody mentioned the Rocky Mountaineer Station. As of Jan 1st 2008, it is no longer available for club type events. More great news for finding proper venues!

Menno was a surprise for me last year, or at least his Intuition Sessions was. Been a long, long, long time since I heard an epic melodic trance set that I actually reasonably enjoyed throughout. Plus he provided quite possibly THE best DJ pic of 2007!

If he were to play at The Plaza, I just might be coaxed out to checking him out, and considering I haven't gone to a trance event in Vancouver since... um, forever, that's saying a lot.

Posted by falco9 on Jan-19-2008 20:40:

Menno's been at the top of my must see list for a long time, I would be super stoked to see him play here.

that was several years ago, it was still when danny's night was in viva
i miss union and danny shows
it's kind of why i stoped going out to these parties, who wants to pay $100 to go to a rave with a shitty sound system and a shitty crowd

menno was fun, and stupendeously tall

gotta agree with alje, TAs just can't support trance club nights, even together with trance FNKers, there just isn't enough people who'd attend those shows

it's all compounded problems. not enough people so you raise the price to cover the event, then even less people go. so you open it up through promotion to bring in fresh people just to cover the event, and then you bring in some poor attitude people with bucks, that pushes out even more people.

I mean even the viva nights that were awesome to begin with, the last couple of months had some poor times. I don't know the full details, one story I heard was someone was pissed off and called in a gun threat and the cops showed up. There were 10 cops inside slowly kicking everyone out, or at the very least killing the vibe. There was another time someone hit on an international dj's gf who he had brought with him to the event, and taking offense the dj stood up for his gf and got punched by some drunk idiot. Again I don't know the full details, and everything I just portrayed may be inaccurate, but it's things like those that are reasons why I don't go to normal clubs, and I stick to EDM events, and even now I'm not liking some of the crowds. The Steve Porter one, was mostly great, but I had brought a girl friend (not a gf) along, and she spent the night miserable because some guy twice her age kept stalking her all night. My efforts to give him the clue to leave her alone finally paid off, but still.

I don't know what the solution is, or even what the root of the problem is, but for all those that argue that Vancouver sucks because clubs close at 2am, imagine the drunken losers this town has at 2, twice as drunk at 4.
