Intense Ants

I've seen sick videos about ants before, but this one takes the cake. I love the cement part.

Re: Intense Ants

Interesting indeed. Pity they had to destroy it just to learn more about it. Surely there could have been a more ethical way of going about it than sacrificing a whole colony in the name of Science.

Yeah when they first started pouring the cement in there I started laughing, thinking about the millions of ants now going "OH SHIT WHAT THE FUCK GET THE FUCK OUT"

makes me wanna go get an ant farm

Absolutely fascinating.Much respect goes out to both ants and scientists.
Alternatively...too much time on their fuckin' hands !!

Found another vid pertaining to ants. The quality isn't so great, seems like the person who uploaded it simply put a video camera in front of a television screen, but it is fascinating and further denotes their intelligence. I'm starting to think that once we've wiped ourselves off the face of the Earth, these little buggers will be next in line to inherit it.

Wow that is massive.

Do you have a link to the torrent of the entire show? I absolutely love documentaries like this <3

Posted by venomX on Jan-19-2008 08:23:

The second clip is from a BBC series of documentaries called Weird Nature, the first one I have no clue where it is from, although as you I would like to get my hands on it.

"this massive colony, in human terms equivalent to carrying 4 times their weight for half a mile"
and then we poured cement down it and destroyed all their hard work, WOO.

it's REALLY interesting and left me saying "wow", but harsh to kill so many organisms for science. That's like pouring cement over New York and being like "oh.. well there are billions of people in the world, what's one city... we did it for research"

CHOCOLATE COVERED ANTS

1742 lg Ants, (if they are small, use 2,044)
3 cups Melted chocolate

Catch ants at a picnic site and keep them in a glass jar to which you have added a teaspoon of sugar to keep them happy. (Unhappy ants are liable to go sour before processing.) At home, pick up each ant with tweezers and remove entrails with a small, very sharp knife edge. This will take about 400 hours. If you are in a hurry, eliminate this step; you'll never know the difference. Dip each ant into melted chocolate and place to drain on waxed paper. If any of them are still able to crawl off the paper, let them go -- be a good sport!!

One more...

100 Live Black Ants (avoid red ants, their too spicy)
1 vanilla bean split and seeds scraped out
2 Egg Yolks
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 tsp. Butter, melted
12 oz. Bittersweet Chocolate

Procedures -
Using a medium size pot as a double boiler, heat two cups of water and place a bowl over it. Add chocolate and turn heat to low, heat until chocolate is melted. In another mixing bowl, add vanilla seeds and egg yolks, beat until smooth, add sugar and butter. Fold in ants carefully. Take care not to smash them. They stay more flavorful and retain extra moisture if intact. Note: The chocolate should never be heated over 100 degree's F. Use a digital thermometer to check the chocolate. Carefully fold the egg mixture into the chocolate. Use a teaspoon and immediately place a half teaspoon of the mixture onto wax paper or place in chocolate molds. Refrigerate to harden. The chocolate covered ants can be refrigerated for up to three weeks. The chocolate helps to preserve their freshness.

That's pretty amazing. I loved when they poured the cement down there. KILL EM ALL!!!! MUAHAHAHAHA I friggin hate ants with a passion. I got bit 6 times in the meaty portion of my thumb doing push ups in the grass. I wake up the next morning and my thumb is the size of a baseball.

What's the point of removing the entrails? They are sooooooo tiny.
