I've always brushed this off as "does he really use it though?!" but I don't know enough about the music he spins originally to decide. If he actually does use the stuff, then sweet. He did say something that I couldn't say better myself.

Yeah, I feel the same way as well. I believe James Holden also said, why bother when you got machines that can do it for you...so you can focus on adding samples..etc...

to each his own I guess...

he was saying something refering to using laptops live instead of turntables or cdjs makes it look like your checking your email or something and the whole dj vibe is lost..anyways thats one of the reasons why i respect tiesto so much.

By the way, does anyone here have a link to the video presentation he did of Serato and Ableton? He explained how he combined timecoded CD's on his CDJ1000's and Ableton Live at the same time, on two different laptops. I guess this was about three years ago, but I can't find this video anymore.

who plays a track that can sit for 8 minutes by itself?

I think at most i have a track sitting by itself for 3 minutes, and if I let it sit that long, it's because I think it's fucking great and deserves to be heard out

whether you play vinyl or not has nothing to do with it - jeff mills, need i say more?

Its better to look like youre a taint trying to find a purpose for yourself so you stick your hands in the air like an idiot to grab the balls and the asshole at once and let the track wreck?

I heard that Tiesto comment on Radio1 as well. The thing is though that Paul Van Dyk is not just mixing with computers live he is playing and making new music at the same time. Its just the difference between how you want to perform. Paul is definitely one of the few DJs that you will see with two MIDIs out during a performance.
