as odd as this may seem i find it terribly difficult to say exactly what is it that i do...got the question today from some VP in my dept (he pharased it better but essential that is what he was asking). i mean i'm still at work and haven't left my desk for 12 hours so i must be doing something right?

does anyone else feel like it is difficult to describe what it is they are responsible for...i had numerous mini heart attacks today but yet it still feels like i do x, y and z and that's that but really i don't.

i think i'm losing my mind cause i've been here for too long by myself drinking coffe like a fiend

I know what I got to do, but it's normally what the boss doesn't expect of me. Just do it, drive on and drink a beer when you get home. If you have a face to face with your boss later, then tell him what you really do instead of what he thinks you're doing.

oh i don't report to him nor do i listen to him. he just doesn't like me because he tries to get me to do stuff and i
a) tell him i don't have time to do it or
b) kinda of ignore him as he speaks

just thought about this because i told him one thing i did and he was like "wow you do that" and i was thinking wtf do you think i work 10hr days for fun.

Think you just repeated what I said previously, but a little differently.

Unless you're in a factory line, people do things not directly related to specific job descriptions everyday. Those things can tend to become part of their normal jobs.

makes sense...i seriously think i'm not processing stuff so well right now. you are right the boss expects stuff to be done but the process is not always thought about.

Sounds to me like you're not meeting expectations and are subject to being fired. You can have things going on on the side, but there's a bottom line where certain criteria in your job has to be met. Suggest you fulfill the baseline first before trying to do other things.
