Question Shisha/hookah in downtown TO

Suggestions for good (and preferably inexpensive) places in downtown TO? Decent food would be ideal too.

I saw a place on Yonge and Finch area and there was a line-up outside for people to get a table, it was packed and smelled nice.

Theres two places on yonge and finch, theyre right next to eachother, both expensive and shitty though... 12 bucks per nargila and u HAVE to buy some drink or food and the nargila is really shitty there...

under the sun was the best but gone
best thing is buy one and do it at a friends house theres also another place not so bad on yonge and steeles, called VIP, it was once called Legacy but ya... times have changed, we need more nargila places in toronto o well, downtown i dont know of any sorry...

15-20 min. drive from downtown: Oasis at Lawrence (one block west of Warden, south side).

Been going there for 8 years (called Aladdin before)

yeh I went to Oasis last Friday. Great place!

I don't have a car so driving is not an option. I'm going to be downtown so hoping for somewhere I could get to that was nearby. Doesn't look like there are too many options.

anyway... im not familiar with hookah lounges since ive never been to one. i think most of them (if not all of them) serve herbal stuff (tobacco-free) because of non-smoking laws. im not a fan of the herbal stuff cuz most of it tastes like shit.

its best to just buy your own and order tobacco online from the usa. you will find the best selection online. toronto only sells el nakhla.

What is a good website to order a hookah and some tabacco from? I think it's time for me to get one.

there are a few.

my favorite for tobacco is www.mnhookah.com. they wont claim the package as tobacco (they say it is flavored molasses) so you can avoid paying taxes but sometimes customs will nab you. they carry some nice mya saray hookahs. these are machine-made in china. definitely the best chinese hookahs on the market. i own a mya saray QT single hose which i converted to a double hose.

my first hookah was purchased from www.socialsmokehookah.com. they carry good quality handmade egyptian hookahs. all egyptian hookahs are handmade so not every hookah is the same. welds are different. the only problem with ordering from SS is they wont make false claims with customs. if there is tobacco in the package then they will write that on the customs form.

another place that has nice hookahs is www.hookah-life.com. i chat with the owners on a forum and they are cool guys. they carry mya saray, khalil mamoun (one of the best brands for egyptian hookahs) and some others. their tobacco prices are fair (cheapest place to buy el nakhla if you enjoy that brand). they also carry two good brands of tobacco (al fakher and layalina).

try to avoid purchasing coals online since the prices are usually higher than buying locally in toronto. a box runs for $12-15USD plus shipping (its fairly heavy)if you buy online and is only about $12CAD at Nasr Foods in scarborough.

have you smoked hookah before?
hmm.. not really the question that i wanted to ask. what i really wanted to know is if you have set up a hookah before? you know who to contact if you need help.

edit: almost all sites have hookah and tobacco packages which has everything that you need to get started (including coals). you might want to look in to that. theres a decent mya qt package at hookah-life.

I'd volunteer my place but after hookah night it will no longer be my place (coz i'd get kicked out) lol

anyways I'm heading to Oasis this fri w00t!

Posted by Sunquest on Jan-22-2008 18:26:

we should totally make a hookah night somehwere... ill bring mine too, nice big one with rubber snap-on which makes the smoke smooth and the bottom glass lights up and changes colours, awesome in the night...
if not this winter then lets organize a big hookah party in the summer for night time or at cherry beach or something

PS: you want some good hookahs and prices? go to Friendly Stranger store downtown, its on Queen street, just West of Yonge... very good stuff

Banu at 777 queen street west is a nice spot. food is a little bit on the more upscale expensive side though i haven't eaten there personally. last time we were there at close and did shots with the owner so all good experiences
