Question Vegetarianism/Veganism

Anyone here a vegetarian or vegan? or know one?

If so, since when and why?

I find there are days when I just crave meat, so I'm wondering how v-folks do it.

I'm a sudo-vegetarian and have been for about 3 years or so.
That means I dont eat red meat but will eat seafood and sometimes chicken (which doesnt really happen anyway)
I don't eat meat because the thought of gnawing on a muscled makes my stomach flip... I could give a shit about the animals

Wicked Neo is. I think they just buy quorn products that look & taste like meat but aren't actually meat. I've never got that myself.

Yeh I went to a veggie place here in TO a month or so ago and we had fake chicken and fake pork. I was like

Why do people who don't want to eat meat then go and eat something that looks like meat

I'm pretty curious about the animal rights and other political/idealogical reasons people have.

I met a vegan last Sat and he's very disciplined, right down to soap, not wearing leather shoes/coat, not eating eggs, dairy, etc. It was interesting to learn that even tarmac all whatever you call it that is used to make roads has some animal element in it (though he confessed to not being able to avoid using roads to get around).

most vegetarians/vegans choose not to eat meat because they have issues with how the animals are treated/farmed/processed, not the actual meat itself.

See, this is where the brilliance of cloned meat comes in. Because clones DON'T HAVE SOULS! We can treat 'em any way we want!

Nothing fills me more than a nice big juicy Chicken burger with two layers of cheese one on top one on the bottom....Along with mashed Potatoes and gravy ....mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Well I hear there are extremists (for lack of a better word) who won't even eat fruit unless it's fallen off the tree itself and not hand picked by a human.

I some times have a hard time taking vegetarians serioulsy because of how many people in high school said they were because it was kind of a fad. Too many people were vegetarians just to say they were. But I have respect for those that hold true to their beliefs about it and have been sticking to it for a long time. I personally don't know how anyone could live without the deliciousness of meat.

That's how I feel about seafood. If you haven't had seafood or can't enjoy it... you're missing out, imo!

BRING ON THE MEAT!

Posted by barbina on Jan-22-2008 21:43:

i was never really carniverous when i was younger so giving up meat wasn't a huge ordeal for me. But I totally agree, I hate the fake vegetarians who do it as a diet or who do it to look cool. I just want to kick them in the shin and shove some tofu down their bitch ass throats

Why would you shove tofu? That's giving them what they want. Take a huge porterhouse steak and slap with with it.

I'm a vegetarian because my body seems to have some really strange reactions to meet in general. Stopped eating meat in ~1999, I guess.

Edit: I couldn't care less about animals becoming food, by the way.

Personally raised in family who are all veggies and technically we arent supposed to eat it becuase of my religion. But i do though a few days through the week.

Posted by eRRaTiK on Jan-22-2008 22:07:

yeh that's funny. I know a few Indians who aren't supposed to eat meat because of religion but they do. Same goes for alcohol. They're all liars! lol.

I wonder if true vegans have an evil-o-meter ranging from casual KFC purchaser to Koreans.

I've lowered the amount of meat I eat recent years. I don't mind that people eat meat, but I think we would be healthier if we ate a bit less. And also, the meat industry is pretty disgusting.

It is in human's nature to eat meat. Humans are omnivores.

I don't eat seafood. it creeps me out, the taste isn't good for me and I'd rather eat lamb, beef, chicken or pork anyday
