The NYTA Soccer/Footy Thread

Ok...I know a few of you who browse here follow "The Beautiful Game" besides the World Cup. Only appropriate to get a local thread going.

I'm talking about the other global tournaments (European Cup, African Nations Cup etc), club play (EPL, La Liga, Serie A, etc), champions league, and yes even the MLS

(No, I'm not doing this to score cherry points with Steven Neil )

to Arsenal for finally losing to Tottenham. Gotta love the way Tottenham won for the first time in 9 years by ripping apart their most bitter rivals. That seriously made my day

I played soccer my entire life, all the way through college. I still to this day get really bored watching it, unless its a big game or the world cup.

Yea, but you were a goalie, so you didn't REALLY play soccer......kidding

I played for a long time, and I like watching it, but I can never find it on TV.

Fox Soccer Channel has all the games, i had it with my cable package at school, but now i don't have it now that i'm home. You need to get the sports package with comcast to get it.

FSC has a lot of games but not enough. and they mostly play just EPL and Serie A. I rarely catch champions league on it. Sometimes they play Champions League on ESPN though. which is always nice to see... futbol in HD.
by the way, i dont think anyone can beat liverpool right now. they have been straight dirty all year long, especially my boy yossi benayoun

Most of the games can be found online.

Liverpool has been unbeatable lately. They also can't beat anyone lately either

Rumor is that ESPN is trying to buy the rights to start airing EPL. If you've noticed they've even started showing EPL highlights on SportsCenter occasionally.

Posted by wotyzoid on Jan-23-2008 20:33:

we should have an nyta soccer meet up so i can rip everyone

Posted by AY STAR on Jan-23-2008 22:17:

ive played soccer for 10 years
to me its deff one of the best sports to play
you dont really need a special tallent in order to be good
cause each position is just as valuable as the next

as for watching it alot of the games are really boring mainly cause the field is too big and it takes a while for the team to get their ball down there alot of the time
world cup i do watch tho

Posted by The Vza on Jan-24-2008 00:10:

wait. what channel on direct TV is setanta???

yeah, they actually had it in the regular top 10 plays. lennon's goal against arsenal was 2nd in the top 10 last night. usually they show the highlights to tout espndeportes.com. i'm not sure if it's to highlight the website or to show footy highlights.

i think espn in other parts of the globe show epl and la liga on the weekends. it would be great if they had it here in the states, but it'd be tough considering everything that's scheduled on weekends, like college basketball and college football during the footy season. one thing i can definitely do without on the deuce is world series of poker EVERY SINGLE night. i wish they would show champions league matches instead at 2 am EST; i don't care if they're tape delayed or whatever. here's to hoping the worldwide leader snags some matches.

It won't be that tough to fit most EPL games on ESPN's television schedule since the big games between the big 4 (Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool) are shown here at 7 AM EST. Most games are on at 10 AM with a few starting at noon.

Serie A would be easy to schedule on ESPN since the majority of the games are at 9 AM EST.

As for La Liga(don't know about the other countries), their games would really conflict with college sports since they tend to be on at 11 AM EST or later.
