Posted by FromAbove on Jan-28-2008 00:48:

Trying to appeal to the grunge crowd.

Posted by DJHaze on Jan-28-2008 03:28:

I don't like the way this is going.

Posted by RJT on Jan-28-2008 03:48:

I'm going to wait patiently for Deadmau5 to sign on and explain his motivation for accepting any offer to work with Tommy Lee.

That should be pretty entertaining.

Edit: I wish I hadn't wasted any time on those samples either. Just awful.

as a matter of fact... yes.

there's people to buy this out there, and tommy lee's name will only help to push it to the mtv crowd.

frankly i can't see any other motivation besides straight cash, homie. joel zimmerman gets richer and we complain about it, sound about right to me.

Posted by RJT on Jan-28-2008 14:48:

Well yeah - I think anyones motivation to do anything with Tommy Lee would have to be money. I'm certainly not seeing anyone claim he's all together too talented at anything.

I'd just love to hear it from the horses mouth.

Posted by denys envy on Jan-28-2008 15:20:

to be honest i could care less about my image in the EDM community if i was making the type of money he is.

i'm sure tiesto isn't all like "ohh noes, what oh what will i do about all deez haterz..."
...how about buy another benz Mr. Verwest.
"Sounds good to me, with rims nigga with rims! and they spinnin nigga they spinnin, they spinnin nigga... etc."

Posted by RJT on Jan-28-2008 15:21:

/Captain Obvious

And yes, Denys - you seem to have hit the nail on the head. Most folks in the artistic community in general would probably "sell out" if given the opportunity to continue doing what they're doing as a full time job.

Meh, it is what it is - and not unlike these tunes, it's pretty shit, but that's the way it goes.

Posted by denys envy on Jan-28-2008 15:22:

and to clear up the obvious before someone points it out. I'm sure joel isn't making THAT much money, but i'm positive that it's more than 95% of everyone else doing the producing/djing thing.

i know he don't have a day job cuz he updates his facebook/myspace more than me... and i'm bored at work kids.

Posted by RJT on Jan-28-2008 15:25:

I'll say this much though, I think it would have to be a piss ton of money to even get me to go willingly to the same room as Tommy Lee, much less attach my name to a project he was involved with.

A lot. Probably more than Tommy Lee could afford.

i can't judge Tommy Lee on character, personally i don't know the guy - so he might be cool to hang out with and whatever... do some blow, i dunno.

but i have heard what him and that other douchey looking character (DJ Aero?) have to offer as far as DJing. and god knows if any of the "dirty electro" that they play was self-produced, but it was talentless and god-awful. not all of it, but i walked out an hour into it. not only that, they were supposed to come to Baltimore and i'm glad i saw them beforehand because i didn't let myself get dragged into seeing them here... which didn't matter because they cancelled like 1 hr before they were supposed to play.

Maybe you have to pay to work with Tommy Lee. Maybe that's why it's called 'You Can't Afford This'

Posted by RJT on Jan-28-2008 15:37:

Tommy Lee also doesn't particularly do anything when he "plays" live - he hooks up with some other electronic artist and proceeds to make really bad noises with an EFX box for the duration of the set being played.
