Music similar to Chicane?

Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new here, but I am a burgeoning trance enthusiast, and I've been listening to a lot of Chicane lately and it's simply breathtaking stuff. I was wondering what other artists out there are similar to Chicane's style of trance? The songs that I enjoy the most in particular would be "No Ordinary Morning," "Something Wrong," "Locking Down," "Spirit," "The Drive Home," and "Sunstroke." Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am just looking for more artists with similar work to those tracks or to Chicane's style in particular. Thanks in advance!

thrillseekers, and bt's older stuff (escm and its remixes) immediately spring to mind

Nothing like Chicane really, but try Hooj/Lost Language stuff like

Accadia - Into The Dawn
Salt Tank - Eugina (Michael Woods Remix)
Solar Stone - Seven Cities, Solarcoaster
Saints & Sinners - Peace
Nalin & Kane - Beachball

What the other guys said, and since you like Chicane's downtempo stuff, make SURE to give a listen to these albums:

Ulrich Schnauss- "Far Away Trains Passing Buy"

Ulrich Schnauss- "A Strangely Isolated Place"

and why not, the new one!:

Ulrich Schnauss- "Goodbye"

Here is a track in youtube from the album "Goodbye"

Ulrich Schnauss- "Shine"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6d-...feature=related

It is actually one of the few Schnauss tracks which features vocals, you will find great instrumentals in all three releases (although the weakest is the third one).

Also, another essential album:

Helios- "Eingya"

Here's a track from the current album in youtube:

Helios- "Dragonfly Across An Ancient Sky"

If you like these then chances are that you like ambient
music...

For more trancey stuff, another classic album but hard to find these days:

Salt Tank- "Science and Nature"

this Voller Sterne version remember Chicane style.

Chicane is far, far superior but try this album the CD1 Chill, track title is very beautiful, Ulrich Schnauss, some BT tunes and Salt Tank obviously.

Thank you all for the replies!

I have to say though, I probably should have listed what other music I listened to haha, because a lot of you posted stuff I already have (and love). I have all 3 Ulrich Schnauss albums, they're incredible. I agree though, Goodbye is definitely weaker than his previous work. I recently picked up Trilogy and disc 2 is nice, but sometimes it's TOO downtempo... I think Chicane deftly blends relaxing tunes with a nice beat, while Disc 2 of Trilogy is simply just very calm music. It is nice though. As to the poster who suggested Halcyon + On + On, that is probably my favorite song ever created across all genres of music. Haha it's unfortunate that I have listened to a lot of the stuff already suggested. I will definitely check out BT's earlier work though, and the rest of the suggestions already posted. As to Thrillseekers, I picked up both volumes of Nightmusic, and they are great, but where would I find other work by him? Any more suggestions would definitely be welcome while I track down the others!

Is there any specific place where I can find these remixes? I'll be honest, I am not sure where to look for these. Are there places on the internet where you can find them? I buy almost all my albums but am not sure where to find specific singles/remixes. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Since Chicane totally ripped the "warm fuzzy acoustic-guitar-trance" thing off from Salt Tank to begin with, I'd start with them.

Quick bump and just wanted to reiterate what I asked earlier - Where could I find most of those remixes that were suggested? I am clueless as to where I should go about finding them, and any help that would point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I buy all of my music, but I do not know where to get specific remixes or songs. Help me out!

This is my first post in this forum, I usually han around the production forum but I wanted to help out someone with similar taste
Have a look on beatport or audiojelly for the remixes you're after, you might have some luck there, otherwise, theres some great live sets on this site in the new tracks section.
Have you heard any Above and Beyond stuff? Thats where I went after Chicane... Kyau and Albert, Agnelli and Nelson, Nalin and Kane and so on were also all working at a similar time and put out good records. Blue on amazon and Deepest Blue might also be worth looking into.
I know Chicane often played songs by Lamb, Way out West and Aphex Twin and similar people in his live sets too, so check them out as well. No one is really like chicane though, Orbital are too "experimental" (like looping a vocal sample over and over) and the Thrillseekers were always more dance oriented in my opinion - although Nightmusic 2 was probably the best compilation of 2007... Sunlouger I found overall boring, despite some standout tracks.
What I really loved about chicane (by which I mean Behind the Sun) was the way he put the record together, theres not a single poor track on there. I don't know anyone else with a similar sound who did that...

Way Out West's self-titled debut album has quite a bit in common with Chicane's Far From The Maddening Crowds, sounds-wise.
