pioneer djm-800 vs xone-92

so ive managed to save up $1500 and decided to spend it on a mixer. i plan on buying a pioneer efx unit in the near future as well.

my question is which mixer should i go with? ive played on the 800 a million times, but haven't touched a 92 nor seen one in real life. i just bought a macbook pro and will be using ableton shortly. ive heard the xone has the clairity but ive just never heard it.

im texting back and fourth with dylan ryhmes and he isnt helping much either, so i was hoping someone on here could put in their own two cents.

If tiesto won't help, try a search. There are an annoying amount of threads on 800 vs xone mixers and all of them nearly always come to the same conclusion;

The 800 is a decent mixer but inferior in sound quality to the A+H period.
If your going to buy an FX unit later, then that will make the on board FX (the real selling point of pioneer) wasted money.

Go for the 92 - it's better quality (both build and sound) and you will get bored of the FX on the 800 pretty soon anyway.

ive tried calling tiesto, but his 1800 number charges 200$ a min to talk to him

thats what i was looking at, there is one on ebay now for 1200.

I have the 92 rotary and love it. If, like you said, you're going to go ahead and get an EFX unit later on down the line then I'd go with the 92.

A&H no question, though I'm partial to Rane. My Linear Empath is too sweet to ever let go of. I'm looking to grab a 2016a for rotary action.

xone92 for sure.

If you're gonna get an EFX then I wouldn't get a Xone:92 - it hasn't got a proper FX send loop, so it's a bit awkward using external FX with it.

Have you looked at the Xone:42? It's only got 3-band eq (rather than 4), one filter section (rather than 2) and hasn't got the MIDI controls etc, but it will interface with an EFX SO much better, plus you can just plug it into a USB port on your computer and record straight from it really easily.

Plus it's a fair bit cheaper than the 92 so you'll be able to get the EFX sooner

The FX loop on the 92 is a lot more flexible. Sure it isn't a simple send/return loop but and it is a bit tougher to learn how to operate, but it gives a lot more flexibility on routing your FX.

No it isn't lol, believe me

You need to bring it back in through another channel, meaning you have to switch channels each time you start using FX - a proper pain in the arse in most situations.

You can always use a send/rtn loop (like the one on the 42) as an aux send by just not connecting the return cables anyway, so if there was something you didn't think you could do with a normal send/rtn loop that you could do with an aux send, now you can.

Agreed, I had a Xone 92 for two years and yes, the effects loop sucks. Call it flexible, but it's not very usable. I'd take the Xone 42's "flex fx" style loop over it in a heartbeat.

What, and sacrifice a filter for it??

I didn't say I'd take the Xone 42 over the 92... just the flex fx style thing instead of the 92's studio style.

Who knows, maybe the 92's successor is coming with that on it.

As the owner of a Xone:62, I can safely say that once you get used to it then it's a walk in the park.

That said, I believe that debates such as these are pointless. Our choice in mixers is just about as subjective as our choice in what we spin. All that we can do is list the facts, outside of that there's no point in going, "OMG but that's a stupid reason to go for that mixer. Here's why you should go with what I use."

My advice? Read-up on both mixers. Try and get your hands on each of them, even if it's just for a few minutes at your local record shop. Go with what you think will best fit your needs/desires, rather than the needs/desires of others.
