Tomorrow ... semesterial evaluation [Art School]

the last two days have been evaluations for my class ... being nearly the last in the alphabet I am going before the jury tomorrow.

You basically have to present your work for the semester, personal art projects etc.

Having heard various echoes of people being slammed by the jury I have decided to not go down without a fight.

Here is the dilemna .... I painted all the walls on one side of the hall in pink ( long art theory, anti-art gallery explanation to the whole thing blah blah blah ) ....

Tomorrow morning I need to setup my stuff in the room.

I took this big piece of paper and wrote F**K the white cube.
Art should live with the people... and should not be reserved to an elite.

(the white cube is the minimalist art gallery type of setting establishement of today ).

Having written the word f*** and being extremely anti art gallery, and many forms of pretentious art I feel that my behavior is going to be extremely confrontational in the morning but f**** them.

I will also put up a bunch of quotes of violent criticism directed towards the current art world.

How well do you think it'll go over?

cor version:
Semester eval tomorrow, pissed jury, I am basically going to say f*** the art world.
Dice or no dice?

Can art be pretentious and pink?

People like controversy in the art world. It shouldn't always conform to being classic paintings or abstract pictures which have been done a million times before. Hence why you have galleries like the Tate in London and artist like Damien Hirst being around on scene.

Art is entirely subjective. I can't see why they would yell at him for doing something like that.

Who cares? If they like it, good on them, if they are all offended, they'll martyr you so you can go wank off over your own anti-elitist elitism later on.

Sure, why not?

I don't see what's so interesting about adding "fuck" to a sentiment recycled from the early twentieth century. "Pro-populism! Anti-elitism! Anti-art-establishment! Living art, not stuffy shit in a gallery! Fuck the bourgeois and their phony aspirations to 'culture'!"

Uh huh. Didn't Dada already do this shit almost a hundred years ago?

[And the funny thing is that the sort of early twentieth century avante-gardists who originated this kind of silliness, even as they pretended to "defend" "the people" from the alleged jack-booted "elitists" of high culture, also had great disdain for the sort of rubes and petty-bourgeois aspirants who were dumb enough to be impressed by the old stuff in galleries.]

Give me a fuckin' break. At least try and do something that demonstrates you've been doing more at art school than reading left-wing sociologists and French PoMo philosophers.

Underlying message of basically "F*ck you and the world at large" is not what the "jury" is looking for to award you a semester's worth of college credit.

Are you on drugs? I mean, some serious ones?

because while conceptually it has been done before... the idea is cool, aesthetically i can see it looking awesome (one pink wall, giant sheet that says fuck the white cube etc) it's art school, and we are usually rewarded for making crazier shit as long as it appears we put a good amount of work into that shit.

Well the evaluation went mildly to terrible.
The main prof is someone I kind of don't get along with and never speak to him ( we are supposed to see him individually throughout the semester ) so ignoring him is asking for an arse raping.

They were not so interested by my artistic work ... oh well ... I realize some of it was rubbish but I'm starting off you suckaz.

If there was maybe one positive thing was about the papers I put on the wall.
While one teacher was very unpleased by the fact it was written very poorly, nearly tag like, they appreciated my reasonning and motivation behind my act.
The main prof actually said ( in privy ... he doesn't compliment people in public generally ) that me putting these things up on the what could have been expected from a fifth year student, because of the brutalness and thought behind it. So not all bad.

oh and yeah I got all my credits, as a matter of fact the whole class did ( long story short, the credit system is being used for the first time here and they give you all your credits on the basis of a good GPA ).
BUT, I got a warning for lack of work .... oh well ... 9 people in the class got a warning, of which two are close friends and I can only imagine a couple more of these are for some other friends of mine too ( most of the class absent today so I didn't get to know ).
