Funny stuff... but scary. This is precisely why I REFUSE to drink bottled water unless there are NO other options. (And even then I'd rather drink a soda!)

+1 for my brita pitcher.

I can't imagine how much bottled water North Americans drink... never mind how much bottles are thrown out because of it.

Dead serious... bottled water is INCREDIBLY wasteful, and just another shining example of how Americans are being duped into wasteful behavior by large companies who take us all for suckers. Yea... I need my water bussed in from Fiji... only took 4 gallons of gasoline to get to my doorstep... f#$@king convenient.

Whats next... am I going to have to start going out and buying batteries to provide my house with electricity?

Not hard people... buy a thermos and a water filter...

Posted by Gen3r4l1ty on Feb-01-2008 19:30:

And for the record... Aquafina and Desani... not from any spring. Thats just plain old filtered water people. Thats right... they run tap water through a brita, put it in a bottle, and sell it to saps for $1.50 per 20oz.

Zephyrhills bottled here in Florida, have one about everyday.

Posted by Gen3r4l1ty on Feb-01-2008 19:47:

OK... and what does it come in? Plastic? Thought so... How does it get to the store? Big rig? Thought so... These are all wastes of resources that are EASILY avoided.

Posted by chach on Feb-01-2008 19:58:

You're thinking about it to much, it'll be someone else's problem in the future.

You are absolutely correct. However, it comes in on the same trailer as the rest of the dry grocery freight. That big rig would still be driving with or without the pallet of water on it. Your argument there is invalid.

I drink water from the fridge which has a filter. The only time i drink bottled water is if i am going to play futbol outside....

Posted by chach on Feb-01-2008 20:16:

I'm not even Unitedstatesofamericum lol, and no I fill my bottles back up occasionally, but it's not like I hold on to the same bottle for years.

[edit to be pc]

Yea, but if that truck weren't holding 20 pallates of water... then the OTHER truck thats bringing the rest of the groceries that wouldn't fit because of the water wouldn't be necessary... you gotta look at the big picture. NOTHING travels for free.

You're talking to someone who works in a grocery store and unloads the freight trucks every other night of the week. There are three brands of bottled water that we carry. Each of these comes in on their own pallet (one pallet each). We get two trailers in for our dry grocery freight, both are filled 100% full. If you take those three pallets out of the equation then you will have one of two scenarios.

A.) There's a space where three pallets would be. There would still be two trailers.
B.) They would fill that space with other product.

This isn't a small store, either. We do a large volume of sales compared to most stores in our region.

I was born in Colombia, so no I'm not.

I'm glad other people know where I was born, I don't know what I'd do other wise.

Oh trust me... I put in my several years of service to retail. You also have to consider that for a lot of outlets (specifically smaller stores) those trucks hit multiple stops... so there is NEVER any empty space in a truck.
