What is the last good book you read?
A few days ago I finished The Exile's Return by Malcolm Cowley. It's about the "lost generation" of writers in Europe and America in the 1920s -- Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and others of their time. Cowley was an editor and critic who knew a lot of the most famous authors in that group, and he explains what motivated them to do what they did, and how their experiences -- growing up and going to college in America, fighting in World War I, living in post-war France, then finally returning to the U.S. -- shaped their beliefs and their art. Highly recommended for anyone with interests in the 1915-1930 era of literature, and in how writers are influenced by their reading, friendships with each other, and life experiences.

How about you people?
The Count of Monte Cristo
Loved it.
Just getting into Ellis' "American Psycho" now, and really enjoying that one as well.

Asimov's Guide to the Bible: The Old and New Testaments
Isaac Asimov's in-depth look at the historical significance and events surrounding each episode of the bible. really explains a great deal about everything and why/how it was written. purposes of each apostle/chapter.
good read, especially for all you amateur theologians out there.

High Steel: The Daring Men Who Built The World's Greatest Skyline
i'm currently only about a third of the way through, but it's probably the most captivating book i've read in a while. really interesting and well-written nonfiction about the iron and steel workers who built a lot of the skyscrapers and bridges in Manhattan.
before that, i read Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress, which was also very good.
I have books from all these authors which ones should i look into.

Last book I've read I never finished, Hobbes' Leviathan, and right now i'm a bit through one and starting another as well.
In the middle of: The Elegant Universe (fucking amazing book)
just starting: The Wealth Of Nations
i read nonfiction
1984 by George Orwell. ![]()
Haruki Murakami - Sputnik Sweetheart

This book was truly excellent - the combination of African mysticism, magical realism, and dystopian authoritarianism was like George Orwell meets Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Highly recommended.

My holy bible before I flagellate myself depending on the amount of sins and guilt I've carried through the day.

I'm now reading Paul Feyerabend's "Against Method". I'm addicted to it, and I wish I was reading it right now
